Couple accused of selling pot to Green River students
Wednesday, May 21, 2003
GREEN RIVER (AP) -- A couple has been arrested for allegedly selling large amounts of marijuana to Green River High School students over at least two years.
Penny Weckerly, 34, has been charged with four counts of delivery of a controlled substance and four counts of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance, according to court documents.
Christopher Weckerly, 41, has been charged with seven counts of delivery of a controlled substance and three counts of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance.
Confidential informants allegedly told Green River police and State Division of Criminal Investigation authorities that Chistopher Weckerly sold ounce quantities of marijuana to several high school students.
One informant allegedly said that, while in the Weckerly home, he or she saw 20 bags with an eighth of an ounce of pot in each bag. The same informant said Christopher Weckerly went to Salt Lake City every day to buy marijuana, according to police.
The informant allegedly said the drugs were usually sold at Green River High School during the lunch hour and some students smoked marijuana at the Weckerly home.
Another informant claimed to have bought marijuana from Christopher Weckerly at least 30 to 50 times, paying about $40 for .25 ounce.
Still another confidential informant said the Weckerlys once drove to Texas with 10 to 15 pounds of marijuana under their spare tire.
On April 28, Reid Rathbun was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Rathbun said he bought marijuana from Christopher Weckerly and sold it to others, according to police.
Penny Weckerly was arraigned in 3rd District Court on Wednesday and was being held on $75,000 bond. Christopher Weckerly waived his preliminary hearing in circuit court and was being held on $200,000 bond.

"$40 for .25 ounce"
that's a good price
-------------------- One of the reasons marijuana is illegal today because growers in the 30s lobbied against hemp farmers -- they saw it as competition, because It is not chemically addictive as is nicotine, alcohol, or caffeine.
