Are you lazy, apathetic and unmotivated?
    #15639863 - 01/09/12 12:54 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

If so, we need to brainstorm and find a way out of this state of mind. It`s gonna drive us crazy.

How the fuck could we shake this shit?

I read online about it and its all the same shit. Set goals. Give yourself rewards. Its great for self esteem blabla.

It seems to me that they don`t get it at all. It seems like these things we`re written by motivated people that never felt a second of apathy in their lives. The title of these articles should be "How motivated people get more motivated"

So lets solve this problem. What do you guys think would work to get us going?

Actually as a generally lazy person I can say that setting goals, tracking progress, ect.... all that bullshit actually works. But if you're not working towards anything then you have nothing to set a goal for. If you have no ambitions in life there is nothing to be motivated towards. That's not something anyone can help you with.

I will say though, that I was unmotivated for a very long time and also very depressed. If you're depressed then that's the first thing you gotta solve. Unfortunately one of the best things for depression is working on your goals. So you kind of have to force yourself out of it. But the good part is that your mood and ambition fuel each other, so once you start to force yourself out of a rut things will only get better as long as you keep working at it.

Put yourself in a position where you actually need to do more than sit around all day.

And yeah, you read online to "set goals and give yourself rewards for completing said goals", however it's a little deeper than that. Don't just set one goal for the week, set several. Plan your day out - everything from making the bed and brushing your teeth to going to work 15 minutes early, to writing an entire essay and reading that book.

Small goals are key. Don't break any of these goals, because if you can't give up immediate satisfaction to complete short term shit, then it becomes much harder to rationalize your long term ones.

smoking less weed helps some :vaped:.

I have found that making lists helps a little. if you make a list of things you would like to accomplish the next day you can rest much better because there is less worry. When you wake up you have an idea of things you can accomplish. If you get a few done, than great! something done is something done.

Daily meditation really helps with focus, especially if you incorporate movement like yoga or qi gong.

I'm a ridiculous degree of all three of those terms.

Best way I've found to beat it is stay busy and make it routine. I go to work, I go to school, the rest of the day I reward myself with drugs and laziness.

When im lazy, apathetic, or unmotivated I get up real fast and throw myself into something. I usually dont know what it is, but I have the idea in my head that I need to get 'there' wherever it is.

something cool always pops up.

I'm going to try that this semester, I'm also going to go to sweat lodges with the Native American Church a few times every month to help my spiritual growth, and going to try to stay busier with my school work. Also going to start lifting weights and running again to exercise my body. Hopefully those things will help me stay productive. Also going to find a hobby, other than trying to get all jacked up everytime I get the chance.

I took this as literally throwing yourself into something.  Like you get up in the mining and run into a bookshelf or something.

Cannabis on the other hand.

No, Yes, Yes/No

The merciless destruction of the consumerist model should spur on the disenfranchised to step up out the marginalized shadows and finally be able to fulfill their collective desire for ultimate freedom. Their apparent lack of concern and effort for following the established channels of cultural/social advancement was previously misconstrued by the obedient programs as vile and lethargic, but the veil has now been pulled out from over their eyes and they can see just how lost in the game they truly were.

While on opiates, when you're not....

This is coming from a ex-opiate addict.
Why don't ya quit taking them and see how motivated you are.

And do some research on what functionality opioid receptors have in your brain

well..... I'm going to try smoking a bowl :jah: hopefully it helps!

Seriously though, setting attainable goals helps me get stuff done. It just feels good to have stuff crossed off of your to-do list. Even if it's something as small as vacuuming or making the bed.

i do not at all agree with setting goals, goals lead to dissapointment manggg. Okay everybody has some goals at some point in his live but i do try to avoid. I change my lifestyle completely regularly, to keep things interesting. I get bored about every job after around 6 months, then normally hang on for 6 months and then i just cant take it anymore. I get that bored grumpy coworker that takes nothing serious and tries to make fun of everybody if possible. Had the same at school, i tried 4 different studies and didnt finish one of them. Also i have a new hobby like every half year and the old one just doesnt interest me anymore, until maybe after a few years when i start to pick it up again. I also randomly have these lifechanging ideas that i think are great and always pursue to bring to life, but they usually end up costing me money. I feel like im made to roam the world and to live in a different country every year. I think most people get anchored in their surroundings and  dont even dare to think how it could be in other places. It just all starts to bore me so soon. Its not that i feel too good for it all, its just that my brain alltime needs something new to stay awake. I m very lucky that my wife keeps up with my lifestyle and it also gets her adventurous side out. To conclude, yes im also a lazy bastard but its changes in life that can keep you busy and your mind occupied. Boredom kills.

Out of everybody that answered, your post is the one I can relate to the most. I have that 6 months then I'm bored out of my mind thing. So many jobs I have quit within 6 months even if they we're good jobs.

I quit a 20$ per hour job after 6 months because I was about to go crazy. Like I had to.

Yeah i got a great job right now, but ive been working there almost a year and wanted to quit in march, but due to replacement troubles my boss asked me to stay till juli. It will be a few tough months for me because i am really aching for something new again. Im getting these visions now when im working where im just re-experiencing cool things that i done in the past, and really long periods like maybe 15 minutes where im just working autopilot and in my mind im in the past. I wonder ifthere are many people like us around?
