having problems can some one help?
    #1563496 - 05/20/03 06:40 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

ok my friends tigeris haveing a few minor problems any one feel free to help.
OK 1st of all haveing a small problem of too much moisture in his incubater, hes sealing the jars as in the pf tek but getting a really bad ratio of bad jars. so what he did was took every jar and put it in a plastic zip lock bag, then took all the air out the bag that he could and the inside of his incubater is still getting condensation
what can he do to lower the amount of water thats getting out of his jars and making a enviorment for bacteria to live in?It seems like alot of the bad jars have green mold on the very top of the jar but under the dry layer of verm u put in there the colonization is going well he tried to just cut the top part off the was contamed but that didnt work
P.s the spores are not the problem he make a big half gallon of spores at on time so if it was that all the jars would be bad
2nd ? hes using straw and pasturizing it in a pot of water then when its done takes it and puts it in the washer machine on spin dry even with this theres no contam but the straw is still too wet to colonize all the way. how do you get the straw dry enough for full colonization?

I agree bad punctuation but this is a forum not an English Class. I'd just use a pillowcase put that in a pot of water with something on top of it as a weight. I use your standard top notch GRADE A big ass rock from outside. I've often thought perhaps I could piss the rock off and have it explode but it's never happened. After your done cooking it there at around 160?F for an hour or however long take it out and squeeze as much water out of that muther fucker as you can with your BARE ASS MUNKY HANDS.

Then after you have completed that put a rack of some sort over your sink and let the pillow case sit on that so it can drain I usually let it sit for quite a while if you get really impatient you can blow dry the bastard but that's blowing stuff around in the air too. I'd just let it sit there and drain I've left mine overnight or half a day they seem to get dry enough:)

Good luck

Bleeding SICKNESS

No need to soak the straw prior to pastuerization. As far as the post-pastuerizing yellow water is concerned, it is recommended to use an oven rack when draining so as to not allow your straw to sit in its own runoff. I would assume it goes double for un-pastuerized straw, though I've never done it, so I can't say from experience.
