    #1546153 - 05/13/03 06:18 PM (20 years, 9 months ago)

I have some birdseed in straw and cased with verm/coir

the problem is that i have gotten like 3-5 fruits in each bin that are HUGE - like 50g wet each, but nothing else!

Is there a reason for this?

are you complaning???

# of bins * 3-5 fruits * 50g wet = # of bins * 150g wet - 250g wet

150g wet - 250g wet = 15g-25g dry per bin

halaluya!!! brother

Did you let the mycelium colonize evenly through the casing layer? If not, that would be your problem. Also, are you sure the straw has 100% colonized, and that you used high quality wheat straw? How deep is your substrate? A larger, deeper substrate will provide more nutrients to provide larger fruits with more pins,

Also how big are your bins? A good yield is around 1000 grams wet per square foot. Some can do better, some not as good but that is a good number to work towards.

Not to burst your bubble, but 50 grams wet is not that big for straw. Afoaf has had 75 gram wet fruits from rye berries cased, and a lot of people have 75-100 gram wet fruits from straw.

Finally, did you have a lot of aborts? Or did you just have a few fruits that grew to maturity. I think you need to answer a few more questions before anyone could give you an accurate answer.

Just to clarify what si1988crx said:

When the casing layer is colonizing, patch up the poking mycelium so that it colonizes evenly.
