Petri dish growth? Now with Pics..!!!

For those using Petri dishes, I recently inoculated several 1/2 pint jars. I used a good 1/4 cc to 1/2 cc per jar. It looks like stuff is growing everywhere on the dish. Some places very thin as I can still see the agar. It looks like the real thing and I dont believe it is any contam. Does this sound normal? And how thick does it become? Will it become thicker? Its like almost every spore grew on the agar. And there also seems to be pools of small liquids a few, though no other signs of a problem. Could this be caused by the growth? btw.. used cat food and some brown rice flour added to the agar for food.

Sorry no pics quite yet if at all. Any wisdom and knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on a lot of things; pH, nutrients, strain, etc, etc -- could look like thick rhizo. strands or little repressed colonies of growth. If it is white and looks like mycelium and it's the same in all the jars it's probably ok. If the pools of liquid are brownish-tan and growing it's bacteria; otherwise may just be from the liquid with which you inoc'd it.

Does it get thick at all? Will it eat it's way down a bit in the agar and basically get thicker? As its thin enough in spots to see the agar beneath it yet is still white.

I cooked each jar with agar in it and some water evaporated in the glass, it left a ring near the top of th agar. It looks like its growing great around that ring on the side, I imagine its got alot of nutrients there?

Here are a few pics like to add, Note the tan liquid that seems to be pushed out of the agar.  It doesnt look like its spreading at all just pooling more.  Is this alright?

Like I asked previously, will this get thicker, should it look like this?

Look normal(besides the yellow liquid).
Rhizomorphic growth usually differentiates after some time, or some transfers.

How long do I wait on these jars to develop before I inoculate my grain with it?

Sorry for the persistent and nagging questions, just dont wanna screw this up.

In theory, as soon as you see that the culture is not contaminated, you can use a wedge to inoculate a jar. In this case the result is similar(equal) to a multispore inoculation of a jar, with the exception that you know the spores are clean.

Or you transfer it to new dishes 1-2 times until you get a nice rhizomorph isolate, and inoculate with this.

I like to do it the first way, then choose a fast, nice specimen and clone that.

How thick usually do you let the wedge get before you inoculate the jars (as in depth not width).

I thought I also read that its best to use two wedges a jar for inoculating?

it will not continue to grow upwards endlessly, it's just the mycellium looking for food right now. As long as the mycellium is attached to the surface of the agar, it's fine to use a wedge.
