Look at my friend's loph...please help
    #1562724 - 05/20/03 11:13 AM (20 years, 10 months ago)

This is a picture of my friend's loph. Any tips as to why it's shriveled? It gets watered about once every week or two, but just won't plump up. The plant was not watered over the winter due to the cold. The roots did seem to shrivel up a bit, but seem fine. No rot or anything like taht was noticed. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If the shriveled part feels very very soft, and if the shriveled part becomes larger than your friend has a problem. In that case it is probably rotting and as far as I can see you wouldn't be able to save it from dying. (Or at least I couldn't). I've had this a few times with some 1-3 year old Peyote's and it is not always caused by watering too much, as most people think. It also occured on rare occasions when a peyote was standing completely dry for three weeks.
If it doesn't feel extremely soft, then you don't have to worry I think.
Edit: BTW, I think that Comario is a real expert, and he says it's OK, so it probably will be OK.
