PS4 and Xbox 720
    #15625077 - 01/06/12 11:45 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Not really sure if that's exactly what they'll be called but apparently they are supposed to be revealed at E3 in June. Anyone have some things they wish these new consoles will have?

I hope they don't make cloud the only way to save games, nothing is better than the security of having the file on a hard drive. Say for example your internet is down for some odd reason that would mean I couldn't play any of my games because they are saved online, same as if you bring your console over a house that may not have internet.

Everyone seems to like the idea of just download games and slowly faze out having to buy games in the store, I don't really like that one either, don't really like the thought of having pretty much everything I own sitting on the internet, hopefully the new consoles aren't 100% internet dependable.

saved games will never be cloud only, that would betray everyone who doesn't have internet.

Well its just talk as of right now. A lot of people want cloud only saves and download games only. If that were to happen I don't think I would want one.

I'm camping out for these mother fuckers and selling them.  I'm starting  a badass pc Build next month so fuck consoles.  Also I've heard gaming companies haven't even pushed the ps3 to the max yet.

i like the idea of downloading games and saves in a cloud. of course they'll sell hard copies but im preferring downloading them. this christmas PSN had tomb raider: underworld as a freebie and i downloaded it. ive also buyed other smaller games there and i have no problems with it. if i want a hard copy i'll buy it as a back up. if i just wanna check some game out im willing to buy it cheaper online and downloading it.

I prefer discs to downloads. They're faster, and dont depend on an always on connection. And lately my router has been crying as I max out the down stream with HD content.

Hard copy > Soft copy. I don't like the idea of relying on the net. This is a problem for both PCs and consoles.

Pretty hard to lose a soft copy, they have upsides too you know.

That said I'm against a soft-only design for any system because 15GB takes a loooong time to d/l on a 100Kb/s connection. Not everyone is privileged with awesome bandwidth.

When I used to download games on a 8MB connection it would take 6 hours for a 7GB file to finish, when I want a game I want the 15 ride to the store. They were also thinking of making the new consoles DVR for some reason.

Cloud saves and direct downloads are nice conveniences, but won't take over, at least not in this next generation. There's still way too many people that don't have internet, don't have a constant connection, or just have shit download speeds.

I do expect much bigger HDDs though and the expansion of online services. I didn't even know they made an 8gb Xbox for awhile and had to say WTF when I found out about it. 8gb is pathetically small, and if we ignore the current HD shortage, hard drives are cheap as shit.

Yeah, it's batshit to think any implementation of digital delivery is going to go pure digital-delivery. You need the hard copies for a number of practical reasons, and the people developing proprietary hardware aren't complete idiots.

That said it would be really really cool if modern consoles functioned like STEAM.

Well that's the idea also, to have consoles run a steam type service where games are organized and downloaded the way steam does it. The whole DVR service seems useless though.

Well PS4 isn't going to be announced this year, Developers are still going with what they said back in 2006 that the PS3 will have a 10 year life cycle.

what, my elite has 120gb

Even tho I think its unlikely it would be cool if you could upgrade the components. ram/gpu etc...

I feel the need to clarify this because I hear people say it a lot. Life cycle just means they will support the system for 10 years. For example they did the same thing with PS2. The PS2 came out in '99 and they were producing new games for it even in 2009. But the PS3 came out in '06.

Sony said said the PS4 won't be at E3 this year, but it will definitely be released before 2014 ends, not 2016.
