How much acid do you think Bob Dylan did?
I've never read anything about him, but "Mr. Tambourine Man" is all about the LSD experience i'm sure.

"Mr. Tambourine Man" is all about the LSD experience i'm sure.
Hmm.. I wouldn't say it was "about" LSD, but it probably had a hand in there. Most people hear The Byrd's cover..it's easy to understand how their euphoric version might lead one to that conclusion. Dylan's own version seems more kind of haunted, slightly out of reach. It's more of a poetic ideal than anything else. Then again maybe not.
What he used to do was get stoned beyond belief, and then sing whatever came into his mind, stream of conscioussness style. he would then write down the words that he liked. He basically wrote it while completely stoned.
Dylan on his song writing technique:
"I seem to draw into myself whatever comes my way, and it comes out of me. Maybe I'm nothing but all these things I soak up. I don't know".
Bringin' It All Back Home (which includes Tambourine Man) was the first of his albums to include drug references. It was also about the time that he started using acid...
Dylan on drugs:
"I wouldn't advise anybody to use drugs. Certainly not the hard drugs; drugs are medicine. But opium and hash and pot - now, those aren't drugs; they just bend your mind a little. I think everybody's mind should be bent once in a while. Not by LSD though. LSD is medicine - a different kind of medicine. It makes you aware of the univerese, so to speak; you realize how foolish objects are. But LSD is not for groovy people; it's for mad, hateful people who want revenge."
Make of that what you will.

Mr. Tambourine Man
Written by Bob Dylan
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, Play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm going to Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning, I'll come followin' you
Take me for a trip upon your magic swirling ship All my senses have been stripped My hands can't feel to grip My toes too numb to step Wait only for my bootheels to be wandering I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way I promise to go under it
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, Play a song for me I'm not sleepy and there ain't no place I'm going to Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me In the jingle jangle morning, I'll come followin' you
It's got to be about acid. "I'm not sleepy". "Take me for a trip upon your magic swirling ship. All my senses have been stripped."
Interesting what he said about acid. Opinions are like asses though.

i would imagine he said that about acid because if you're already groovy, there's really no need to take acid, it's like taking asprin when you have no headache. The assholes who want revenge need to take it so they can realize they are assholes and become groovy people. I don't personaly practice this philosophy, but whenever i'm feeling like an asshole or a dumbass, i like to dose to get me back on track, so i can understand it, if that's what he ment.

I think I read somewhere he did try it once. But, he was never an enthusiast:
DYLAN: No. Psychedelics never influenced me. I don't know, I think Timothy Leary had a lot to do with driving the last nails into the coffin of that New York scene we were talking about. When psychedelics happened, everything became irrelevant. Because that had nothing to do with making music or writing poems or trying to really find yourself in that day and age.
PLAYBOY: But people thought they were doing just that-finding themselves.
DYLAN: People were deluded into thinking they were something that they weren't: birds, airplanes, fire hydrants, whatever. People were walking around thinking they were stars.
