Does this Pan myc look right to you?
    #15623411 - 01/06/12 12:50 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

This is my second "go 'round" with this species. First failed attempt was with BRF/Manure/Verm cakes. I got to full colonization, but could never get them to pin. Im trying it again only bigger.

This is Pan Cambo, MS inoculated via agar wedge 8 days ago. The agar wedge looked clean to me, nothing obviously wrong to my untrained eye. Filter disk top. Jars were shaken 2 days ago. Growth has been rapid at room temperature. Much faster than cubensis. Having only seen the myc once before I question whether this looks right.

I know that Pan mycelium is thin an wispy, almost like that of Cobweb mold. But having no experience I want someone else to look at this. Some of the texture in there looks very yeast like to me. Im hoping to do some G2G transfers in the next couple of days, but Im apprehensive about it. This growth is really fast.

Is this normal?

I found these pics by Anno too. Maybe I am OK here.

That has some similar characteristics of what I have going on in that jar.

Yeah. Im less concerned over the wispy myc. I know its supposed to be like that. The big concern I have is the texture of what I have going on that looks like yeast in there. You can zoom in on those pics, and see a good example of what Im talking about. Bottom pic, top left of the jar, next to my hand. Theres a couple of sunflower seeds right next to each other. Thats the part that looks shifty to me.

It looks okay, next time you might want to not use that type of seed mix. Sunflowers are gross.

Ive used it for cubes plenty of times. Everyone says to take out the Sunflower seeds, but I haven't ever had a problem with it. Myc eats it just like everything else.

I soak then sterilize at 15 psi for 120 mins too. So far hasn't been a problem. But maybe the Pans dont like it. Time will tell I guess.

Can't really tell if its yeast or not, my last grow in a mono came out great tho. Totally forgot about em for 10 days or so and when I went to check, voila fruits.

I used a liquid culture this time cause it took so long from spores to colonise the bird seed. Definately different then cubes. The LC killed it tho, much quicker. I didn't even get a chance to case last time and ended up with a couple dry ounces.

I leave the seeds in as well. Fuck it. Shits probably even got cracked corn in it lol. I've never had any problems. I read the sunflower seeds were beneficial for myc since it contains lignen

I like to keep things as easy as possible. Less shit I gotta do the better lol

I kinda see what you mean about those two sunflower seeds.  Its hard to tell exactly what they look like in a pic but like you said, only time will tell.

Props btw!  Keep us updated man!

Use rye. Not only is it better spawn substrate, it's easier to distinguish good Pan mycelium from other nasties.

Rye is expensive shit here man. I might go to it for this species though. We'll see what happens.

Its going to be my next pan grow. This is the second time Ive given this species a shot, the first time was unsuccessful. Im hoping to work out the bugs on this grow, and then those brazil's you sent are next on my list.

That jar was G2G to 7 others, and I now have 4 trays colonizing. With a couple of extra jars to spare, just in case.
