so i just spent the afternoon helping my dad who hurt his back again, had to take him to his first chiropractor appointment, he saw my dad for about 30 minutes, gave him a brace and told him to put ice on it, and come back every day of the week, possibly 2 times a day.
he cant afford to be out of work that much, and afford the co-pays, Ive googled chiropractors a bit and it seems like its a big scam. anyone else got an opinion?

I jacked up my back a few years ago. Went to a decent chiropracter and he lined me back up. Had to see him for about 6 months, but theres been no problems since.
Though I think that if dude just gave him a brace an ice, I might go check out someone else. Most places will do a full evaluation, probably an adjustment, and a massage/electro-stimulation of some kind.

I love going to one. It has helped my back and neck tremendously. I only go when I feel pain though. There is no way in hell I would go twice a day.

Chiropractors are big scams. They crack your back, and it releases endorphins, but IMO doesn't do a whole lot else.

It's very easy to become dependent on them. They become the only release for an aching back or whatever. Tell your Pop to get into the gym, start working out and strengthen his back. Start taking yoga classes and/or learn to how to stretch and loosen up his own back.

if you have disks out of alignment it can and often does put pressure on nerves equaling muscles spasms and pain. unless the office seems sketchy relax, sometimes if it is too close to the incident a day of ice and relaxing will allow him to adjust with out it just getting pulled back out.

If your father does not see any improvement within the first few visits he should either go to a different chiropractor or try another type of therapy (physical therapy, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, acupuncture, etc..)
Chiropractors are not all scam artist, but it seems most would prefer to see you for the rest of your life rather than provide any permanent healing. Some people benefit more from re-adjustments than others.
I saw a chiropractor for scoliosis amongst other hip/cervical problems. The first few visits I noticed some definite improvement in my condition that has lasted till this day (almost a year later). Every visit after the first few though seemed just seemed like the chiropractor was audibly cracking my back with no actual improvement. They also wanted me in there 3 times a week for six months, where I think once a week for a few weeks would have been fine. I stopped going when I stopped noticing improvement.

Find an Asian Bitch for a GF that knows how to give a massage. She'll crack your back, and get you worked up, then fuck your brains out for dessert. And it doesn't cost nearly as much as a chiropractor.
