 How long does the blueing reaction take?

I was at a friends today and upon leaving I saw a bunch of mushrooms that had a light brownish cap with a tiny nub on the top and a white stem and dark brown gills. So, I picked it up and wanted to see if it blued at all so i squezed the stem a bit and nothing happeneds and i accidently broke it open, but I saw no blueing and wondered if maybe it takes a little time? I live in Southwestern Ontario and they were in grass right beside a a tiny pile of dirt, and some were in the dirt(i think). I looked up some shrooms that have been reported growing in Ontario and michigan, kuz im right beside it, and the Psilocybe Caerulipes (blue-foot) looked pretty similar and so did the Psilocybe liniformans ( not really kuz the caps are all one colour on the Psilocybe liniformans and slimy looking but, the gills looked similar only darker on the one I saw.
I have no mushroom picking or growing experiance at all, and didn't get a chnace to get a spore print , maybe tomorrow if I can get a vehical. Just anything you guys could say or know any looks alikes or anything.

I think it depends on the mushroom, but it shouldn't take much longer than a few minutes...Well, that is what I have noticed.

Longest I've seen a cube take to blue is about 3 minutes. I don't know about caerulipes as I've never had the pleasure of meeting this entity.

Ok now that i've got the blueing question answered could anyone help me out with anything else in this post like maybe give me some info of what it could be considering time of year or maybe some look a likes??

id bet it was a coprinus of some sort. everyone seems to be finding them and they have dark gills. peace

P. caerulipes blues within a few minutes of picking. You would notivce it immediately.
I have posted the pictures of P. caerrulipes collected in Ohio several times here. Try the search engines.
In the meantime here is an image of some Psilocybe stuntzii from Seattle formthe lawn at Volunteer Park circa 1976 July 2.
They were growing in front of the art museum.
In 1976, 80% of all new lawns everywhere in the PNW produced massive rugs of this species. See the bluing in them.

It is close tot he end of Panaeolus suubbalteatus season. The only one would nbe P. caerulipes, maybe a few Gymnopilus, although I do not reccomend them.

whats wrong with the gyms, or why not recomend them? could you comment on Gymnopilus validipes in oregon?
i found them a few years ago but new nothing about them

Mainly because Gyms taste like god awful, bitter, disgusting shit... at least that's what I've heard.

WEll I have eaten G. purpuratus from Germany. At least they were dry, but still very bitter. A tea makes it worst becasue the bitter taste stays in your mouth from the liquid.

My dog lives in Ontario too, Toronto to be more exact. If you find anything out, gimme a pm.
And yes, I've tried gyms before, and well...I compare it to eating dog shit, topped with a fine layer of cat piss.
