GREEN!? spore syringe
    #1560065 - 05/19/03 02:58 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

AFOAF recently came accross a spore syringe that was a light shade of green. What the deal? Does this mean it's contaminated?

It's strange that because I once used half a home made syringe to inoculate some grain. The spawn worked well but the remaining 5cc's in the syringe turned a light yellow green after 2 months storage in a cool, dark drawer.

I still use that syringe sometimes and never have been able to shift the yellow green stain even after sterilizing but it causes no problems..

Anyone else experienced this ?

I would tell your FOAF to make up a honey jar and inject 2cc's of the green syringe into the jar, if it grows mycelium your syringe is good, and you'll have a 1/2 pint worth of liquid mycelium to use....and if it doesnt, your syringe is contamed but you never wasted it on any WBS or PF jars, so still saved resources.
