Whats your view on candles?
    #15592438 - 12/30/11 02:30 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Okay so I walk into my friends house today, and notice that my breathing is noticeably inefficient. I begin to freak out a little and blow out a harmless looking candle. I walk outside and my breathing is fine. What the fuck these can't be good for your health (air freshners, scented candles)! What do you all think?:strokebeard:

I don't see the problem? Save for the obvious fire hazard.

Interesting.

I should ask myself what my point of view of random object is.

What's your point of view on tupperware containers?

Overpriced and pushy marketing, but at least most don't contain phtalates.

interesting.

I'm still not sure about my point of view on them. The are great at containing BUT I can never find the right lid cause plastic container companies are too stupid to standardize them. Also, they are made of plastic, which is bad. BUT, they do contain very very well...

:lolwut: candles aren't that bad, unless you sit over the flam inhaling the shit out of the smoke.

I'm not really a fan especially of scented candles.  The best smell is no smell, same goes for laundry.

I see no harm in candles but I only use them when I have a purpose...and not the purpose of changing the way a room smells either....but things like actually providing light or lighting a DMT pipe

maybe I'm allergic or something because scented candles make me feel like I'm struggling to get oxygen when I'm in a room with one:awedisgust:

Beeswax candles are probably OK to burn for long periods without degrading air quality, but its all those damn scent & color additives that will kill yah. All the ingredients are GRAS by law, but that's only for skin and ingestion. Inhalation risks are unknown. I'm not an enviro-nazi, but if I'm gonna shorten my lifespan its not gonna be over a damn scented candle!

Yeah during my research I found that these scented candles may be worse then I suspected. Some people claim its as bad as second hand smoke:eek:
....
Petro-soot  from paraffin candles (scented candles) gives off the same soot as the exhaust of a diesel engine, and is considered just as dangerous as second hand smoke, causing problems from headaches to lung cancer. Paraffin fumes have been found to cause tumors in the kidneys and livers of lab animals.

In 2005, when the American Lung Association issued a warning to the public about the dangers of paraffin the National Candle Association (NCA) threatened them with legal action. The NCA has also sent letters to others who tried to warn the public.

"The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns that burning paraffin candles emits small but harmful amounts of toxins in the air (such as benzene and toluene--affirmed human carcinogens) and are considered above the excess cancer risk with multiple exposures."

The candle industry, is not regulated by the government. Candle manufacturers are not required to list or disclose hazardous, toxic or carcinogenic compounds used as ingredients in their products or even place warning labels on their products regarding lead content and emissions so reading the label might not help.

Candles are cool. Especially unscented ones. Pris got it right with the bees wax candle. I just like normal wax candles, no scent unless it's for masking a scent or trying to set a mood with a scent.

I like the tall skinny kind, they look pretty wicked and trippy when the wax drips down the candle. They are great for ritualistic events, such as doing drugs. Not only useful for a constant hands-free flame, but also great to meditate on and trip to. I love meditating on the flame

One time a burnt a candle in my place and one of my house plants dropped every single one of it's leaves. True story.

But that plant sucked, it would drop all of its leaves if you looked at it wrong.

I like candles, but alas I took the sir tokes a lot response in the poll....

They are really good for doing drugs which need a flame for long periods....(dimethyltriptamine, Diacetylmorphine, etc...)

Who gives a fuck if they put off smoke? It can't be as bad as the smoke you inhale walking down the sidewalk on a city street....

No. No, man. Shit, no man.  I believe you'd get your ass kicked sayin' somethin' like that man.
