Is it safe to leave a heating pad on 24/7?

Depends on the heating pad. If it's your great grandma's heating pad ( like the one I have) then no. But I'm sure the newer ones are safe. It's your house though...

Varies among manufacturers. However it is generally a bad idea.

I tried that and my jars started colonizing nice n fast, buut then i realized the temperature was over 110!!! I can't believe it didn;t kill the mycelium, i guess Lipa Yai are really heat resistant, but that was on the lowest setting. That means that at least my heat pad isn't safe for my mushrooms 24/7ctrically, its probably about as safe as leaving christmas tree lights on all night, so pretty safe.

Make sure that thing isn't sealed with your jars in the same space or it will dry them out.

afoaf has had his on for bout a month or so str8 with no trouble, the wire isnt hot , he checks it often, but like sixcee said dont have it too close, junebug sat his underneath the tub jars were sittin in an killed two good batches, now he as a closet (one with sliding doors) that he keeps the pad on one side of and his jars on the other, his house stays bout 70 and this keeps his closet a steady 82-83

if you must keep it on full time, make sure it's sitting on some tiles or something to conduct heat away. the last thing you want is to return home one day to find the fire brigade, ambulance and police all waiting in line to talk to you.
