Should you dunk a cake with a reservoir?

I've been experimenting with putting reservoirs in my cakes. I did some searching and was only able to find one answer that was from a long time ago. The guy simply said that dunking with a reservoir would drown the cake, but it was hard to tell if he was speaking from experience or just speaking.
Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm really liking the reservoir it's really been fattening my mushies up, but I'm at a crossroads because it's almost dunking time for one cake and I'm not sure if I should dunk or just keep filling the reservoir.
My reservoir is about 2.5 inches deep (5 inch thick compost bulk cake from a grow bag). I was thinking I could just decrease dunking time to around 2-3 hours and just continue to fill the reservoir as needed.
Also, would it be a smart idea to discontinue misting the cake directly and just fill the reservoir, or do they need to absorb water directly from their flesh and not just the stipe? I figure they're getting moisture outside from humidity and internally via the cake/reservoir.
I'm wondering if direct misting in conjunction with the reservoir may be causing the small fruits I've had on my flushes.
Thank you!

There is no need for a reservoir

I don't know, it's been serving me well. My reservoir cake has been fruiting like crazy. The yield and fruit size has greatly increased compared to an identical cake I have going that I only dunked.
This could just be random luck I guess. Not arguing, I'm sure it may not be necessary, but it definitely seems like a viable option.

using multi spore your fruits will vary with or without your resevoir, but no resovoir

yea I understand. It seems like an outdated method, but it's worked for me as far as I can tell. At the very least it hasn't destroyed anything or caused contams. I'm just experimenting with lots of different things which I know is foolish being a noobie and all, but so far so good.

dunking it shouldnt harm it any more then any other cake as long as you dont have standing water where bacteria would thrive.

I'll say this, I don't use a resevoir, but in any event you still need to mist and fan because it is the evaporation of moisture off of the surface that is a pinning trigger, so you still need to do it. I don't see why you shouldn't still dunk it for a few hours

That's faulty reasoning. Humidity simply slows the loss of moisture from your fruits, but does not replenish it. That is what misting is for and should be done regardless of reservoir or not.
The bottom line for substrate moisture is if it's enough, it's enough. If your substrate is performing well under your current regime and not drying out, don't soak. RR

Good to hear. I figured my reasoning was flawed, for the most part i've just been trying to pay attention to what the cakes need via visual dryness, handling weight, and temp RH readings.
Thank you for the responses everyone. I'll probably back off on the dunking and see what happens. I'm afraid of waterlogging this guy.
