Got a juicer for christmas!

So begins my quest of juicing. I used all the produce I had in my house (which wasn't much) this morning to try it out. So far so good. One large apple, one large orange, and a good amount of grapes made a really good juice. Lots of pulp leftover though
I think I'll eventually do a juice fast whenever I can afford all the produce that it would take. What preparatory steps should I take before diving into one?
Also, do any of you ever mix in whey protein or some hemp seed powder?

good luck with juicing, you really cant get a better way of insuring complete absorption... i've been thinking about the very same thing regarding the pulp too. you can add some to harm cereals, mix it in breads and muffins, you can add it too mixed salad dressings, there's probably more you can do i'm overlooking... but even if you do the things i described, you can only put so much in cereal, breads and muffins and salad dressings... baking is the best way to use tons of you pulp, but how often do you do bake? if we bake once week consistently i'd be surprised... baking is great, but my wife doesn't have time and i'm a klutz! nahhh, i could pull baking off, maybe i'll bake more... that will be one of my resolutions... typically though it goes to mulch. we smoothie every once in a while, maybe i should smoothie alot more... i tried blending the pulp with fresh juice but he pulp rapidly falls to the bottom of the glass, it all settles too quickly. don't forget to juice vegetables too. carrots, spinach, kale, anything really, but add veggies too. vegetables like broccoli are better eaten because they give up little juice. add one whole lemon to each juice... on3e of my doctors has me eating the juice and flesh of one lemon each day... why, i'm not exactly sure but she is a big proponent of eating alkaline and believe it or not lemons are alkaline to the body for some reason. and before someone jumps in saying it's impossible to change ph of blood, i agree and so does she it's just that alkaline foods are healthy for you in general... one lemon a day, that's what the doctor ordered...
advice going into a juice fast? start off with a three day and work your way up. taper down food intake 2-3 before the fast, it might help fend off starve cravings. use the foods and veggies you enjoy.
i'd never use whey, because i'm vegan but i'm very interested in checking out hemp because from what i've been told and have read on the net it's one of the best to use...
anywayssssssss... have fun with juicing!

thanks for the reply cateyes. i don't bake often at all so for now i'm gonna just throw away my pulp though i hate being wasteful.
right now i'm going to the store to get some spinach, kale, cucumbers, apples, lemons, maybe some ginger, and was wondering how weird it'd be to throw a tiny amount of jalapeno in the juicer.

you might not get anything out of it because the amount being juiced is so low that whatever was extracted may not make it out of the juicer. if you do this use more then one and juice it in the very early stages of juicing... this will allow other juices to wash the peppers juice into your container... just a thought, it was the only way i could figure making it work... do i taste it? not really, but if it's making it's way into the container it's making its way into my body...
i do add jalapeno and habenero's when i'm making vegetable smoothies all the time though!
