Careers in Mycology?
    #1557762 - 05/18/03 02:32 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I am just curious if there are some interesting mycology related careers. Ones especially related to hunting and id'ing, but also everything else I would love to hear. Any information would be great hehe thanks.

Most of the people I know with a career in mycology involving hunting and IDing have a PhD in it, and most are academics. Most of the others work for the US Forest Service.

It's not a field with a lot of people, so you'll have to get a good degree to get anywhere. And the field is getting smaller. When Dr Orson Miller, Jr retired they replaced him with a molecular biologist, not a mycologist.

If that's what you really want to do, go for it. Expect to work hard to get your degree and a good job doing it.

If you're really interested in it, drop by your local university and talk to whatever mycologists they have about it.

Good luck!

Mark Merlin's Psychoactive Drug Plant course at the U of Hawaii at Manoa to name a few places.

YEs and they are taught by Dr. joseph Ammirati. He wrote several large expensive shroom books on Poisonous and hallucinogenic musrhooms of USA and Canada and WEstern shrooms.
