TUMS for calcium carbonate.

I am aware of all the various PH buffers, lime, egg shells etc. However, ive posed this question before, can tums, calium tablets, be used? Obviously it seems no one has tried this, i would like some indication if it would even be worth trying?
According to the TUMS website tums contain; Peppermint, Assorted Fruit, Wintergreen, Assorted Mint, Assorted Berries and Spearmint. (flavoring)
and says; "The calcium carbonate in TUMS? is processed from pure limestone resulting in a high degree of purity."
Whats your thoughts?

I dont think so, but reading the post about flavoring your shrooms by adding extracts like vanilla or mint into the substrate makes me think that the flavoring wouldnt be a problem.

i don't have a ph meter, but I would really appreciate it if some one who does do a test on some casing mix that was balanced with TUMS. Good idea PDU...might be FAQ worthy if it works.

Actually yeah, thats a good idea...if someone would be so generous, with a PH testing kit, just grind up a tablespoon full of tums or so and try taking a reading for us... that would be great.!

LOL! TUMS?!?!?!?!
Jiminey Xmas; isn't lime from Agway good enough? (I haven't even had problems with the high-mag dolomitic shite for p. cubensis!)
If you want to try it, go ahead, but I use a good amount of lime, probably more than 2 bottles of tums (just guessing) for each of my casings! I buy a 50-lb bag of limestone flour for $5 !!!
Hey, two each their own, but also realize carbohydrates in the casing layer (including sugar) = TRICH. Most common reason (documented) for trich outbreaks.

First, don't use tums, or any sort of vitamin for that matter.
I used some old Calcium Tablets with CaCO3 as the primary, if not only ingredient (with some other minor ingredients) and I had poor results.
Just go with lime, or CaCO3 if availible. Don't get fancy with calcium tablets, rolaids, or tums.

Hmm, i was searching the other day for lime and dolomic was all i could find, 13% magnesium...nansnook reports very poor results with this. Altho its seeming tums would just be more problems.
