It's just the idea of me on stage, in front of a mic, spotlight on me, telling jokes to a crowd of people that attracts me to it. People go to the bar to get shitfaced/ have fun and if I can provide them a few cackles, I've done my job. Comedy is my reason for living. If you can't laugh, what else do you have in this world?

For dealing with hecklers:
Single out the heckler, get everyone looking at them
Then ask if they have taken a good shit lately.

Over prepare. Find out what average slots are in clubs in your area prepare atleast 5 extra minutes of material. You want to be able to account for talking to fast, forgetting jokes and having to fill time and if they wave you too keep going or if the crowd wants more.
Improv is always a good skill to practice, keep up to date with all current events, especially local to your audience. They must be able to relate to you. A "how bout them xxxxxx" line is a simple cliche but a classic cliche. Keep confidence in your style and remember just because you get bored of your stuff doesn't mean the world does, it's alway new to someone you just hear it every day.
You should record yourself and post it here? That is if you want true, strict criticism.

I have had dreams of being in the green room with some of my favorite comedians and just having a good time then going on stage and just killing the shit out if. They are sort of reoccurring dreams but usually different settings and people in them. They are always the best dreams though, and occasionally I will come up with some pretty funny material in my dreams but forget to write it down.
That feeling of killing it on stage has to be the biggest natural high though. Having a connection with the audience. The only problem is that bombing has to feel like sucking a thousand dicks in front of your whole family.

Hey Newbie do you watch joe rogans podcast by any chance?
-------------------- December 1960: "They took the drug one evening at Leary's house and had a profound experience, during which Ginsburg prophetically realized that it was a time to start "a peace and love movement". He then ran naked around the house, attempted to get Kruschev and Kennedy on the telephone and announced to the operator that he was God."

Word, his guests are usually pretty fucking awesome. He had the dude from Vice guide to travel on reciently and it was pretty insane listening to his stories. Used to hate Joe Rogan until I started listening to his cast. I am always catching the new ones now.

tizjack said: Have you watched the Bill Hicks Doco? It has some great info about how he started stand up when he was 14. You just gotta hang in there and be very observant of what's happening in the world around you. Also check out an Australia guy named Steve Hughes. Quite funny. ive seen him twice on stage. Thing is though he had a lot of recycled material, which is fine in some cases but over use is a negative of course.
I was actually just about to say that he should do a bill hicks response to hecklers ala [Someone in the crowd yells "Freebird"] Please quit yelling that. It's not funny, it's not clever; it's stupid, it's repetitive, why the fuck would you continue to yell that? I'm serious. [The same man yells something back] "Kevin Matthews"; okay, what does that mean, now? Now, what does it mean? I understand where it comes from, so do you. Now, what does it all mean? What is the culmination of yelling that? [The same man yells back again] Jimmy Shorts: he's not here, he's not gonna be here. Now what? Now where are we? We're here at you interrupting me again, you fucking idiot. That's you. You see, we are here at the same point again where you, the fucking peon masses, can once again ruin anyone who tries to do anything because you don't know how to do it on your own! That's where we're fucking at! Once again the useless wastes of fucking flesh that has ruined everything good in this goddamn world! That's where we're at. Hitler had the right idea! he was just an underachiever! Kill 'em all, Adolf! All of 'em! Jew, Mexican, American, White, kill 'em all! Start over! The experiment didn't work! Rain 40 days, please fucking rain to wash these turds off my fucking life! Wash these human wastes of flesh and bone off this planet! I pray to you, God, to kill these fucking people! [Someone yells out "Freebird" once more] Freebird. [Falls back] And in the beginning there was the word, Freebird. And Freebird would be yelled throughout the centuries. Freebird, the mantra of the moron.
-------------------- "I have no way of knowing whether you, who eventually will read this record, like stories or not. If you do not, no doubt you have turned these pages without attention. I confess that I love them. Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

My last boss did stand up.
None of the workers had the courage to go to one of his shows due to the way he talked to us.... I thought it was hilarious.
The pep talks in the morning before work made alot of us laugh and god damn was he funny/mean. In a good way though.
I'm confident in Newbie and I want to see your first time. tehehe
When he was asked about, "How do you get in front of strangers and try to make them laugh?" All he said was alcohol and the idiots I work with.
