Why do we have so much misinformation?

Like the title says - why do we have so much misinformation on this site, and what can we do about it?
I'm sure there are several reasons. Two of which are below.
1) Too many people who are new to the hobby are answering questions without understanding what they are saying.
Why are new people answering these questions? Because they need a certain number of posts to get into the other forums such as Grow-Logs and the Marketplace.
2) People are asking the same questions over and over because they can't find the answer in the search engine.
Why can't they find the answers in the search engine? Because most of the hits are threads in which basically just say "Use the search engine."
Now. What can be done about it? Honestly, I'm not sure.
Obviously, we are not going to get rid of the post requirement to access certain areas of the site. I'm not sure how to prevent people who don't understand to stop giving out wrong information.
But perhaps people whose answers to the same old questions is "Use the search engine" could either refrain from posting or, even better, post links to the threads where these questions are actually answered. If we all did this, soon the search engine would have links to the correct answers.

I'm not saying this is easy but it needs to be done on the admin side of things.
When I was new I would look through all the archives on here:
http://www.shroomery.org/4/Grow-Mushrooms
There's an incredible amount of misinformation here, but noobs dont know that. The first thing they go to is the teks provided by shroomery.org. As mushroom growing evolves, these old teks with bad info need to be DELETED.
A lot of people here wonder why noobs spout bad information all the time trying to help people here. The real reason is that they don't know it's bad info, and are just repeating what they read.
We can fix this by cleaning up the archives, and making sure only the most up to date information is there.
EDIT: Also when I was new, while looking up the search engine looking for helpful question threads, a lot of the threads that popped up in the search engine, were filled with posts such as 'Use the search engine!', without an answer! So in reality, those people telling noobs to use the search engine are actually hurting future searches of people who are looking for that specific thread. This is why I always tell noobs an answer (even if it's very simple), instead of saying 'use the search engine'.
