Contam or just slow growth?

So these jars are 1 month along--kept in a heat blanket at approx 83 degrees. I don't know why they are taking so long to colonize. A couple were thrown out along the way, because they stunk. I monitor them day to day and growth is getting slow--WHAT should I DO?
thanx and peace--

Is the bulb of your thermometer bulb (the actual glass part) directly touching the heating pad? If not it might be a lot hotter that you think.

It is a digital thermometer and it was placed in the middle of the incubator. The setup is a rubbermaid tub with a heat blanket placed inside it, then the jars placed on top ofn that. The blanket is wrapped around the jars so they are completely surrounded. it is a newbie setup and I hope to improve it sooon...

Thats a long time if you ask me, looks no better than 50%.
^^^ what anno said.
If other jars went bad, perhaps these ones did as well. You should also get your thermometer as close to the heat as possible. The temperature can vary greatly from the source of heat (usually close to the jars in most setups) to the middle of the chamber.
If they have taken this long, and are not growing at all, then I say contam. If they have stalled and are growing real slow, you may have a heat problem. Your substrate does not look contaminated to me, and in 1 month it could look pretty nasty. Can you see any visual discoloration or any type of excretion that may look like a contam?

the jars that did smell I took out of the incubator. The existing jars do not smell at all, and it could be a heating problem. I am wondering if they will take twice as long to iniatiate pinning also... I hope not
I do not see any visual signs of contams, but the mycellium on some of the jars are almost receding and not contiunuing through the substrate. Is that lack of moisture?
Sorry bout all the questions--newbie grow

Sounds like a heat problem to me. Get a glass-bulb thermometer and make sure the bulb itself is sitting directly on the source of heat. Don't worry about pinning yet; worry about getting those jars colonized. Chances are there is still live mycelium in them (as long as it wasn't 106 or above for a long time) and you might be able to recover them....
The extra heat could also have dried the jars a bit; any condensation?
