Ya i can see me doing that in the future or if i had a bigger SGFC, but the real problem is because of the size i need one just to tell me if my SGFC is working properly due to its size. I would love if RR could comment on this, or a TC or AMU.

Well the perlite is still wet, its been in there for about 24 hours now and been misted about 3-4 times and fanned 5-6 times.
EDIT: But ya i can understand that, as long as it works i dont mind putting in an extra spray or two during the day.

Find a good misting cycle that keeps the cakes moist and perlite wet.
if 3 - 4 is work that's awesome.
Depending where your at geographically you may find you wont have to mist as much as some one else.
If you live in a desert area you will have to mist more. same goes for places that have dry winters. like Chicago for example. If you live in a more temperate humid climate like Florida or Louisiana you may find you don't have to mist as much
Misting the SFGC and how much depends alot on where you live.
If I lived in Maine and it was January. You would probably have to mist ALOT more than 3 times a day. and that ammount of perlite would evaporate all its water quickly (same if you lived in a desert)
Alot depends on the RH of the air the SGFC is in.
It is all about dialing it in for your application Alot like if you have a green house.

Your SGFC is too small. You want/need 4-6" of large perlite at the bottom. The more substrate you have in your SGFC the easier it is to maintain RH. Also, placement of said SGFC is a major factor. Keep it away from heavy fans & heat/AC vents. They'll wick out RH like a mo'fo'. I leave mine in a nice safe place away from most moving air. I need to rehydrate the perlite every 2-3 weeks.

yes. I've found larger bins are better for SGFC. I try to find the largest & tallest tote for my SGFCs

I call Bullshit on the 4-6", that is completely relative to the size the FC. Like I said man;

Keep the humidity in acceptable ranges and provide FAE and you'll be okay.
