Before I clicked on this, I thought about "I almost got away with it", and some other tv shows. You see if you put it in a foil bag, it would still go off when you opened it because it needs to be within 30 ft of the bank to NOT go off.
All you really have to do, is if you're robbing the vault and are getting some serious fat stacks, FLIP THROUGH THEM, AND BITCHSLAP THE BITCH WITH THE DYEPACK-CONTAINING ONE.
Also, you get the same charges for robbing with a fucking water gun as a real one. There was a story about a bank robber that got tackled by a dumbass wannabe-hero soldier that just got back. If the robber had been using a real gun, the soldier would've been killed/shot in the leg. But again, with an airsoft gun you could have some hero problems. Personally, I might even be able to spot a fake gun during a robbery and thwart it.
I also figure that if you (obviously) stake out a low traffic bank, you could whisper to the teller that you have a gun and to put the money in an envelope. No note, nobody hears you besides the one teller, then if you get caught it's just the tellers word against yours that you threatened him/her. You could claim you know them, and they hold a grudge against you.
And of course, buy a decent quality wig of a different hair color, maybe grow some stubble in and dye it before the robbery, and put a big fake mole on your nose. If they get asked for a description, they will say the mole (which you of course don't REALLY have), and they might not notice other details because it is distracting. Also, flesh tone surgical rubber gloves that are tight fitting. And buy some cheap shoes just for the robbery. If you're wearing flashy jordans with fucking shiny metal on the back heel, people will notice that.

probably not. but the smartest way that i know to do it is to use a note. The most amount of time you will get for using a note is three years in the feds

the smartest way is don't rob banks, rob the guy from the armored car company walking into the bank with the money.
google armor car robbery stories and federal statistics = win.

Armored trucks have GPS, usually in a hidden place. And they sometimes have somebody locked into the back of the truck, and you can't even get in there. You'd need a team of navy seal commandos. Or, you'd need a boat with a faraday cage in it big enough to hold the truck, you could load it up and boat away.
Maybe you could fashion a device to self-destruct the note? Like, put the note on the back of an envelope, and light a slow-burning fuse inside the envelope before you walk in, so as you are walking out it bursts into flames destroying the evidence. It would be hard to make though.
Back to the truck idea -- stake out a supermarket and figure out which days they take all the money to the truck (usually once a week, on a friday) and the time. Bring one buddy to help you jack the truck. A stun gun wouldn't hurt, and you'll need a

in your pocket. And dropping like 350 bucks on amazon for a bulletproof vest, (you can just take 350 to a cvs/riteaid and buy a gift card up to $500 max, so they can't trace you if the vest is noticed) wouldn't hurt.

nah you don't steal the truck, that would be insane.
Unless you're trying to do some serious shit, knocking banks doesn't pay that well. I think the average haul was like 10k.
Banks get their money from armored car guys. sometimes armored car guys only work in pairs. The driver can't leave the truck, because fuck that.
Banks need alot of money. average is more like 100k from an armored car-bank intercept.
Its actually pretty common, guy is walking into the bank with a burlap sack covered in money symbols. You smash him in the head as hard as you can, grab the sack, jump in your stolen car, drive away, ditch car.
there's a good bit of information about this online, particularly i remember reading alot of FBI summaries and statistics.
News stories will tell you alot too.
you better smash that guy good though, people do get shot messing with armor car guards.
