Basque Country to Legalize, Regulate Marijuana 2

The parliament of Spain's Basque Country Autonomous Community will approve a new drug law early next year that will regulate marijuana cultivation, distribution, and consumption, EFE reported Tuesday.
The Basque Country Autonomous Community is charged with setting and enforcing domestic law within its borders in northeastern Spain. If the bill passes, it would mark a direct challenge to the United Nations' 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, which forbids marijuana legalization.
"It's better to regulate than to ban," said Jesus Maria Fernandez, second in command at the region's health authority. Regulating "the growing, sale, and consumption of cannabis" is a better approach to pot smoking, he said, calling it "a practice that is already consolidated."
Regional health authority head Rafael Bengoa echoed his subordinate's words. "We do not want to be prohibitionists," he said. Bengoa added that "technical and legal studies have been undertaken" and that the regional government wants to "open a debate" with groups representing marijuana users to help "shape their rights."
The pending bill also includes measures for prevention and treatment not only of drug addiction, but also addictions to gambling and new technologies.

You know Portugal and Spain legalised all drugs eleven years ago?
This is a good bit of news, don't get me wrong, but it's not a first step. Drug decriminalisation is going strong in places not under the jackboot of the anglo-american hegemony.

No they did not
They decriminalized small amounts of all drugs, they did not legalize anything. Legalization would entail a regulated source for these types of "drugs", or, at least, no criminal charges associated with them. Both of those countries still do not allow for the sale or distribution of anything, and certainly did not legalize the drug trade itself; that remains illegal.
And that is exactly what legalization addresses; it will be the only thing that has any hope of destroying the black market.

This is a step in the right direction.
If every member state opposed that horrid UN Vienna convention on psychotropic substances or whatever...what really could the UN do?

Moroccan really doesnt hold a candle to the fine bubble hash you find in certain parts of the US. Thenagain it probably beats the soapbar you got over in the isles.

I know but I like the fact that the hash is beaten out of the plant in a drum and collected at the end, all traditional.
Love the taste too, tried a lot of hashes and I know plenty are better but it's just nice.
Would love to get some again. Tastes foreign.
