syringe disaster recovery
    #1551381 - 05/15/03 04:26 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

I got some syringes from THE and somehow in the mail they had leaked! all of the caps have water in them, one of them has visible spores in it. One of them leaked out of the cap into the bag. Three of four had the cap taped on so they did not leak.

What's my best course of action? My dog says he has no jars ready for innoculation, and he's going away to obedience school until mid next week and won't be able to prepare anything until then.

fwiw, consider any leaked material as contaminated.
step 1, deal with the syringes ASAP.
I would remove them from the packaging that they were mailed in.
i'd not open them till you need them. make sure all the caps are firmly inplace, the one that leaked, tape the cap on like the others (use aseptic technique). once its done, i'd wipe em all down with some alcohol or h2o2 and then bag them individually in a ziplock or some such and put away in a cool dark place till your dog is ready.

next. contact said vendor, explain situation to them. and go from there.

I hope they didnt leak too much on you. good luck.

Best thing you could do for now, IMO, is leave everything in the bag (don't open it) and throw it in the fridge until you can use it. Make it so it won't leak anymore (stand it upright) and so the tips of the syringes are not touching any fluid.

If you took them out of the bag the 3 will probably still be ok.
