Unidentified Pinheads

After having success with PF cakes, I started casing last month. The first day I initiated pinning, the humidifier malfunctioned overnight and I awoke to a handful of normal looking pins (among 10 trays) and one tray exploding with pinheads. These pinheads however looked nothing like the others I've experienced. They lacked any signs of mycelium, they were very thin, gray, and already 2 inches tall. Some had already dropped spores. In short, they looked like minature, gray mushrooms.
I'm presuming that because this tray was the farthest from the humidity output the humidity dropped well below 90% causing the mycelium to rush production.
Aside from the speculations, my questions are:
Are these pinheads safe and/or worthwhile to harvest? Are there competitor molds that cause this type of mushroom formation? Why, after 4 days of pinhead initiation and subsequent humidity correction, is this cake still producting unhealthy looking pinheads? Does my strain suck?

Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks
