It does, whether you believe it or not.  ...Of course trich will grow on coir if you introduce contaminated grain spawn, but try leaving a bowl of coir just sitting around the house.  I'll bet you it doesn't mold.

Out of curiosity what kind of coir are you using?  Sometimes trich is added to coir intentionally.  That's why most people around here use the coir found in pet stores for reptiles.  Is that what you're using?

Yup, that's what I'm using too.

But are you saying my spawn is contaminated? Many people already have told me that they've not had any contaminations since they started pasteurizing coir properly.

I'm going to use my sab for G2G transfers in a moment. What solution should I use? How much water, how much bleach and how much vinegar?

This is a good point.

Some coir is intentionally infected with trich as it has beneficial effects
when in the soil (I suppose).

Pasteurization (even bucket tek) kills the trich though.

Perhaps your bucket tek did not manage to raise all of the coir to the
desired temp ranges?  This does not seem likely.

Good luck,

JD

P.S. It has been found that the combination of H2O2 and vinegar is about
as complete a disinfectant as there is:

I've even had dry clumps of coir standing there after bucket pasteurization.

Also the bucket I used didn't seal 100%. The lid was loosely just on, but I placed a weight on it to seal it.

I don't know.. at least now I have a descent bucket, which seals 100%. But I think I will bring it to field capacity in this bucket and then I'll load the coir into jars and pasteurize them for 2h between 150 and 180F.

I think I use the stuff made for soil, I use those great big blocks of core, and I cut them into bricks, using my circle saw.

Just for you to know, I sprayed vinegar20%/bleach20%/water80% solution in my SAB and now my whole house is filled with disgusting smell.

You're saying I should do it every time when messing with my SAB?

Ha, Ha, you crack me up. I said 10% bleach, 10% vinegar and 80% water. You did 20% 20% 80% which is a 120% its supost to be 100%. Look just take a quart of water and add 4 tablespoons of bleach, and 4 table spoons of vinegar.

take a plastic drop cloth or tarp, use it to cut off a corner in your room, spray the hell out of it with lysol, thats your SAB.
..or you can use a one man tent in your house?
I have used the first method in the past, I cut a corner of my room off with plastic and did open air nocs in there and never got a contamination. I no longer do that though, it was overkill for me.

some people dont even pasteurize their coir. I do for about 30min. I find it pretty hard to get coir contaminated but maybe ive just been lucky..

Bad spawn. Without a doubt, bad spawn. Are you shooting LC? That's your problem if so.
Agar to grain is the way to go- agar work is cheaper and easier than it looks, check out Professor Pinhead's No-pour TEk for one method.

:/ Yes, I've used Spore to LC as an innoculant.. and I've used the same innoculant to fruit over 60 BRF cakes. Even now, at the very moment 4 cakes are pinning.

But I've started doing G2G transfers. I already have 22 new jars that will be soon ready to use. Should I just dump them??.. Why are you so sure it's my spawn, not pasteurization?

G2g is the easiest way to get dirty spawn. Docs right most likely your spawn is junk. You might have done 100 brf cakes from your lc, but have you inoculated a new brf since your string of contams, I bet your lc is dirty, one time with a slip up filling a syringe and the whole lc is shit . I use isolated turbinado lcs exclusively for a plethra of reasons which we can save for another thread, BUT. I also blow threw quite a few brf test jars. If you do bags lcs are the way to go, faster easier and more error proof, as long you have a certified clean lc.

In short work with a new lc, while you validate the cleaness of lc in question, you should always work with many lc's. Putting all your eggs in one basket is silly.

Yes, I've done that. I have not had contamination in my grain jars. They are healthy. I've made G2G transfers too.

I've also fruited about 60 BRF cakes with the same innoculant.

Could you please show us some pictures of your cakes.

First, excellent looking fruits man!

Second DO NOT mix bleach and vinegar.  This is super-basic.  Bleach is a base, vinegar is an acid, the two neutralize each other and liberate chlorine gas, which is toxic!  That nasty smell?  Probably chlorine.  Don't do it.
