I will make a SAB and I'm going to fit myself in.
    #15505647 - 12/12/11 04:14 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I haven't really discussed it with anyone, but I decided to make a still air box where I can go in myself.

I already have a glovebox alike sab, but now I want to make a sab for spawning to bulk.

I'm doing this, because I want to maximize the chance of success. I have had terrible luck with my grow attempts and I have a reason to believe that my house is filled with trich spores.

I haven't been pasteurizing properly though, just following damions bucket tek, but lets not talk about this in this thread.

I just want you to say what you think of the idea of making a sab where I can literally go in, bleach the whole area and then spawn to bulk.

Very interesting Vibes.

I have thought about building a box/room in which I could put my flow hood.

Then running it for a while would give me not just a flow of clean air,
but a relatively clean room to work with.

Let us know how it goes.

Good luck,

JD

i think maybe if you used the smaller SAB in side of the larger SAR (still air room) you might be able to higher success. but i think the large box alone would not work so well. your body moving through the box would cause drafts and blow spores around.  thats why i think the 2 boxes might work well.

Room within a room? I'd still like to think about it as a box.

i have made boxes like you are talking about many time working in mold restoration (hint they wear all green) you can buy these zipper doors online for about 20$ or make a t flap door or a Z door with multiple layers of plastic. i still have my book on how to do it if you like

But I'm thinking of making a small one. Just to fit me and my spawn and tubs.

You have a point, but I would be able to spray and wipe the walls easily inside as I've already closed the door.

I would wear a surgical mask and swimming glasses too.

I would wipe myself with alcohol and wear a gummy hat.

I can't imagine that being good for your respiratory system or any of the holes on your body, not including the millions of pores being doused in solvents.  Sounds scary man, I don't know.

Maybe consider cleaning out a closet and giving it full bleach/alcohol treatment.

The purpose of a glove box is to minimize the size of your workspace and thereby reduce the amount of airborne contaminants.  So any glove box that's big enough for you yourself to work inside couldn't be much smaller than a closet.

I don't know if you've diagnosed your problem correctly, but you may also want to consider spawning a tub outdoors.

Trich has a hard time germinating on coir, so if your spawn is perfectly healthy like you say there may be something else going on.  Are you keeping a few jars aside as "controls" to see if they also contam?

I don't believe that trich has hard time germinating on coir.

Look. 7 days after spawning to bulk.

This is my latest tub (mini msg mono). I mixed the substrate unevenly. You can see that. Guess what happened?

This is 14 days after spawning to bulk.

But unfortunately, the next day after that I discovered first white dots of trick on the bottom, right at the uncolonized area.

It had enough time to germinate there.. 2 weeks. I believe it wouldn't have happened, if I had mixed the substrate evenly and the whole tub would have had full colonization after 7 days of spawning to bulk.

My tub was fully colonized on day 7, just except for this spot which happened by mistake of mine.

Yes, I've done that. I have not had contamination in my grain jars. They are healthy. I've made G2G transfers too.

I've also fruited about 60 BRF cakes with the same innoculant.

this is too funny, and not necessary. Of course you have a house full of mold spores, and so dose most everyone else. I have inoculated jars out in my old dirty barn. Thats what the glovebox is for. It is absolutely irrelevant how much spores are in the air. The important part is, do you have air movement, is it really a still air box? Dose your glove box seal up well? Are you loading , then spraying with 10% bleach solution, and maybe 10% vinegar? After you load, then spray inside your box, Do you then allow 5 to 10 minutes, for the bleach solution to actually work? Check in to these questions first, before you go messing with things like that, dont waist your time. I can do anything anyone can do in fount of a flow hood, out in my dirty old barn, using a simple glove box. I owen 2 flow hoods, and I loaned one to a buddy, and the other is under some box's in my shed.

I still believe your problem is pasteurizing. I was going overkill on flippin everything. New tubs, did controlled jars, bleach/iso, painters plastic covering everything.

Nothing changed until I properly pasteurized and stopped using the bucket tek. Not a sinle contam out of the last 50 tubs done.

It looks like that, but I've been suggested to deattach those gloves, so I cut them off and now there are only sleeves.

But I haven't really sprayed with bleach inside. I've only used alcohol.. Hmmmm....

It does, whether you believe it or not.  ...Of course trich will grow on coir if you introduce contaminated grain spawn, but try leaving a bowl of coir just sitting around the house.  I'll bet you it doesn't mold.

Out of curiosity what kind of coir are you using?  Sometimes trich is added to coir intentionally.  That's why most people around here use the coir found in pet stores for reptiles.  Is that what you're using?

use bleach, vinegar and water. I use alcohol on syringes, injection ports, aluminum foil on top of grain jars, that sort of thing. I use bleach, and vinegar, on spaces, that I want to clean, like glovebox, and Martha's, SG FC, that sort of thing.
