Mycelium pictures of Stropharia rugosoannulata
    #14572649 - 06/07/11 02:21 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hi everybody,

I see there is some confusion about how SRA mycelium should look like. We do have a lot of images here, unfortunately they seem to be too hard to find...

So here we go:

germinated spores, the mycelium starts cottony and fluffy

then it gets less uniform

as soon as the spawn is colonized, the mycelium starts crawling up the walls fan shaped

or slightly rhizomorphic

crappy image of a cardboard clone

and the final results. As they were fruited during a dry period in summer, I had to cover the soil casing with hay.

I hope this helps identifying what you have,
Carsten

Good pictures!

I have a few in the following thread, quite similar but also showing how the mycelium differs on pasteurized vs. non-pasteurized substrate:

Sorry to dig this guy up but just want to say nice job on this one. My spawn looked relatively the same. Started off looking like a shaggy mass and then it crawled the sides of my jars and kind of fused like an oyster. Never got around to fruiting it though. Durch!

@shroomnfl & flameclown
Thanks, they seem to be very efficient fruiters, even when there is no grain spawn involved. The ones on the picture were fruiting from pure straw, embedded in used potting soil.

@john-hai
There were no problems when I ate them.

Carsten
