It's from http://www.pilzfotopage.de/ so its probably not from ReaLighTea. I have seen it before...

Those shots and the ones from your old threads are very nice. Would you mind telling in what part of the country you found them?

Västergötland.

The sclerotia in the photo ReaLighTea posted must be from rye. Really big ones... not like the small rice grain sized ones in my photos.

Pinback, you are swedish, right?

I see. I have not seen them here (northern parts), but I can't say I have really looked either.

Yes, that would be me. My reasons for leaving were a combination of paranoia and change of interest, together with a lack of time. I became more interested in mushrooms in general and less in the psychedelic experience. It was a nice atmosphere back then though with many nice people.

At first I thought ergot was uncommon, searched a lot of rye/barley/wheat-fields without finding any, but since the first year I found them on wild grass I now find them everywhere. Usually on some tall grass species growing along road sides, tractor tracks in the forests and by the side of bogs/wet parts in the forest.

I'm sure you will find ergot if you look for them in july-october...

Molinia caerulea is often heavily infested:

oops, forgot to check on this forum. and forgot to say that its not my pic. i just wanted to find the most fruitatious sclerotia pic i could find and post it, to show the best fruitation i've seen. there is probably certain conditions it likes the best, probably needs to absorb a lot of water too, aren't fungal fruits 90% water? i bet soaking them wouldn't hurt. simulating nature, it often rains in the fall before its must have overwintering.

knarkkorven, why don't you collect the spores from those stroma? drop them in a tiny plastic baggy so you don't lose the spores when they explode on contact, then put the spores in a syringe, syringe to liquid culture for 3-7 days (to germinate spores) then dilute that in a spray bottle around whenever the grasses flower (or even start your own barley/wheat/rye patch) and go spraying it around the flowering stage of the grasses? just sounds like a fun project and quite simple. then you could increase your sclerotia collection and note the different growth patterns on different hosts.
