Those look like Mycena pura. You should verify that by getting a spore print, which should come out white.
Your friend is lucky. Some collections of this species contain muscarine, a mushroom poison with extremely unpleasant effects. In the medical community the symptoms are referred to as the SLUDGE effect - Salivation, Lacrymation, Urination, Defecation, Gastrointestinal distress, and Emesis. On the positive side, deaths from this poisoning are extremely rare. On the negative side, those symptoms are very unpleasant, enough so that most victims seek medical attention. Onset of symptoms is usually within 15 - 30 minutes and almost always within an hour.
Do us all a favor and kick your buddy in the ass. Ask him if he's decided that he wants to be nominated for a Darwin Award. Eating unidentified mushrooms like that sounds like it should qualify to me.
Happy mushrooming!

Some Mycena's which are from Indonesia and irridescent are deadly also.
Stupidity is a shroomers worst nightmare.
A teenage gilrl died after eating unidentified shrooms. She was 16. Her two friends are in dialysis for life.

I think lots of people don't know that you can die from eating random plants, I know when I was a bit younger I would pull leaves off of trees with my friends to see what they tasted like.

Here in Colorado I'm way more worried about the green plants than the mushrooms. There's plenty of stuff growing out there that can do dire harm in a short time.
My personal favorite is Water Hemlock. Eating a 1/2 inch long piece can kill you in under an hour. And it apparently tastes sweet. According to my book it's the most poisonous plant in North America.
Monkshood (aconite) grows all over the place and adds a nice bit of charm to a lot of the areas I hunt mushrooms. Of course, it's one of the classic poisons of antiquity. It was even used to poison water supplies. Lovely blue flowers.
Some of those tempting looking berries aren't very good either. Anybody who wants to eat anything out there needs to spend a bit of time learning first. With some of it you won't get a second chance.
Isn't nature fun?

But that?s how the survivors learned it, from some who had to learn it the hard way. So if it wouldn?t be for people like that guy?s friend, we?d still know a lot less than we do today.
The question of course is if his friend is OK with the role of a guinea pig, I for myself know I wouldn?t be...

I also think it's poisonous Mycena pura. The quantity was probably too small to do harm - maybe that's what he thought was the "high" feeling. Crazy.

Mycena pura is a possible psilocybian mushroom. There are here in Settle two varieties of bluing mycenas/ I haven't seen any on over twenty years though.
mj
The base of the stem is bluish when plucked form the growund. The shrooms are never more than two inches high. growing in pine trees and the other in grass. Very tiny and hard to see.
mj
Conocybe cyanopus is another with a watery clearish stem with a blue bulbous base when picked formt he moss it grows in.

When the idiots eat poisonous substances couldn't that be considered 'Natural Selection'? Natures way of weeding out the genetically damaged individuals perhaps?
Peace, -TekNut-
(and smack yer friend in the head next time he wants to eat unidentified mushrooms!)

It wasn't a correction it was a joke. And btw, leaf is a four letter word and leave is a five letter word, hardly a typo but i thought it was a grat pun and joke. and leaves are a plural of leaf. mj mj
