Best pressure cooker?
    #1549380 - 05/14/03 09:08 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

My friend was wanting to know what pressure cooker would be good as he is just starting out. He wants one that will give him plenty of capacity.

Are the stand alone (their own heat source) or the stove-top models better?

What are the Ferrari's of the pressure cooker world?

All American. If you got the $$$$ get an autoclave, they are stand alone, oh man they are fucking sweet.

By far, All Americans are the best out there, you can get by with Wally World PCs, but if you really want a gem go with an AA.

Skikid tells it like it is.

All American 925 fits the ticket & will last for generations, if cared for.

If you are flush with cash, better yet is the AA 925X

925X isnt stove top. It plugs in an outlet. Sweetheart sumbitch..............

yea, those Presto/Mirro gasket POS's just piss you off. Every year you have to buy a damn gasket ring and every 3-4 years other gaskets start to give out. They are all replacable but if you are in this hobby for more then 3 years the added price in gasket keep up would have equaled a All American 921 which is just fine for most uses and will last you a life time.

How much are autoclaves and where is good place to buy them? And a good place to buy P.C.s as well?

Look here.

Right now it looks as if there aren't too many All Americans, but if you just keep looking, you'll find one.

That's odd, I just found an old Mirro pc in my parents attick the other week. The thing has to be at least 20 years old, seriously. I don't think it's been used in over 12 years. I was afraid to use it at first 'cause it was so damn old! I loaded 9 quart jars into it and fired it up. It creaked, and made all sorts of funny noises for the first few minutes, but it worked fine! No gasked problems at all, and this thing has been in storage for 12-15 years! Maybe Mirro doesn't make their pressure cookers like they used to, but I was impressed with this one.

I have the All American 930 model.
It will do 14 quart jars at a time.
Just barely fits under my Range hood.

You can pick up a brand new one on Ebay every now and then...real cheap.

I also have a small All American 910.
Use it for making up agar and doing small tasks.

There isn't anything better than an All American Pressure Cooker!~
