Can a president change the drug laws in the US? Does legalizing drugs make em less coo

First to all Ron Paul supporters, i will vote for the first time this upcoming election for ron paul. what im wondering is if a president really will be able to change any of the drug laws. It has such a huge industry on both sides that it will be lobbied out. Big Pharma, Cartels, even everyday drug dealers, the private prison system, Government and law enforcement agencies all have a major say in politics. not to mention other outlying groups and agencies some believe in and others dont. I honestly believe the only way to change this governing system is to stop paying tax money or working for them. Its the only way to shut them down. you have to pick a side ya know
Another question. if all drugs were to be legal for personal use and personal amounts of possesion would it make them uncool and therefore less likely to be abused. For example in spain they say drug abuse has dropped since legalization like this. another example i have felt that the medical marijuana movement has made marijuana a little less cool, sounds cheezy i know. but weed just seems like a commodity now. with different strains and everyone and their gram gram growing. It dosnt make me feel as special as before when it was something you werent supposed to do. feel me?

Well, he can instruct the federal agencies to no longer enforce the laws, but this isn't really much of a solution. He can use his position to lobby Congress to change the laws, which is clearly the most preferable solution. However, this is unlikely to happen until drug usage is accepted almost universally throughout the country to such an extent that it wouldn't be a politically charged issue in the slightest to change those laws. Another option would be to send a budget to Congress that reduces the amount of money these federal agencies can spend on enforcing these laws, but that can also receive a lot of resistance as well.

The governing system is propped up and sustained by the people. One only has to look to the serious effects the Tea Party has had on business in Washington. Things dramatically changed once these ordinary citizens said "I don't want government to be in this way, this way, and this way", stood together, and started applying pressure onto the system through electing and supporting their own candidates and maintaining that pressure on them.
It's a system of representation. If people aren't truly involved in choosing who represents them, and ensuring they are always being represented by maintaining contact and pressure, then they are giving up that power and others will gladly make use of it for themselves. The idea of "shutting down" the government itself is ridiculous. Using it and changing it makes much more sense.

No, I don't really feel you. I understand your concerns, but I don't share them. I'm not concerned with the views other people form about me in relation to using marijuana. I'm concerned about having free access to do it, without having to risk unfair consequences for these actions. The idea of shops to go into just as any other to select from a huge variety of pot (one of the coolest things about it is all those different strains) and being able to freely partake in it with impunity is only about ten million times better than sneaking around to buy it but feeling like one's special and cool. I really enjoy the experience of using it, not to mention the kick-ass culture of all those strains and all that different paraphernalia.
