wow, you guys dont know shit about police, thats the silliest thing ive ever heard in my life.
police are just people, people who are a neccessity in our society. they are humans who enforce laws. making simplistic generalizations will only make you stupid.
what you guys fail to understand is that we do not live in a perfect world, we live in a world of victims and victimizers, and ideally, police are people employed to defend the victims. if the government uses them as a political tool, that is sad and uneeded, but realize how they serve a vital function before you disregard them.

I know some cops that I like, but many really are scum.
Many hide behind harmless drug users to look busy so they don't have to deal with real criminals.
If you don't think cops push their own personal adgendas, you're fooling yourself.

I was thinking about becoming a police officer one day just so if I found people with weed on them, I could let them off. I could defend the weak and downtrodden and hang out at the shroomery as the resident policeman shroomer.

I like this one. There are alot of good cops but alot of bad cops. I personally think there are more good cops than bad cops but people think all cops are bad because of this (my opinion): I feel most of the good cops are actully out making things better, they're tracking down killers or whatever lol while most of the bad cops are hiding waiting for you to not use your turn signal to use their power.
The good cops are taking on the higher level of crime using all their power while the bad cops are taking on the small things still using all their power. They're just assholes picking on people ignoring the natural scale of life, but they'll get what they deserve, atleast one nere by will

Where I live, the police chief just shot his wife and killed her then turned the gun on himself and killed himself - in a parking lot right in front of their kids. That was last week. Since then all this shit has come out. He raped some lady when he was a patrol cop in the late eighties and it was covered up. This was the CHIEF of a city of 200,000 who did this. Pretty fucked up shit, everytime I see cops around here now I wonder if they're rapists or wifebeaters. The only reason he never got in trouble for the rape was because his police friends helped him cover it up and discredit the victim.......

Im sorry if that came out wrong. The point I was trying to make was that all people can be assholes, there will be corruption in every job there is. People are corrupt. It just so happens that alot of currupt people do not have the same power as police officers do, I respect them completely, and know their job is not easy. This does not justify some of them doing what they do... I know some LEO's who obide the law themselves, and treat others with the proper respect, and do thier job. These are the people who help make the world a better place by helping the people by protecting & serving. If it were a perfect world, it would all be like that, but its not, and while its not, there is corruption in the police, and alot of abuse gets overlooked by the courts because the police officer is looked at as 'oh so holy.' Nothing is perfect, I know someone enforcing the law, doing what is morally right can get the shaft for no reason whatsoever fucking thier lives up for doing nothing more than their job. The world is a fucked up place, and I dont blame the police officers for it, but the system that allows this to go on.

yes, its a difficult situation, and its probably alot worse in america than it is in canada. but the police are just a social institution whose behavior is dictated by laws, and the people who become police officers.
The problem is, being a police officer is a job that attracts a certain type of individual.....so ultimatly, it is those type of individuals who will be police officers. And that is no ones fault, it is just reality. Until different types of individuals start becoming police officers, then the institution will not change.

Look i do know cops, i do Jiu jitsu with cops. I dont like it and it makes me very uncomfortable being on the mat with them. I hold no prejudices in my life, and I'd LOVE to have this one shattered as well, but I gave you my opinion based on my experience. I know they're just people doing a job, The SS were just people doing their jobs.
What makes a person WANT to take a job holding the dagger over the heads of their fellow man. Its a feeling of hoplessness, of fear, or of outright racism and hatred.
(you can make me think otherwise, by telling me that YOU'VE been pulled over not once, not twice, but thrice, just for being in an acura with a friend. He/they literaly pulled us over for reasons which were lies, "my turn signal was out" etc...which it wasn't, and the traffic issues are the begining, of an uglier list. )
They see the only way to make the world decent is to enforce it with vigour and rampant overzealous action to conform the world to their standards.

heres the difference between the two, one is a needed service, the other is not. your opinion is invalid because you are simplifying and generalizing, you are trying to brand a huge group of individuals with a collective consciousness.

heres a common scenario a police officer would face: a person phones the police because she hears her neighbour screaming next door. The police arrive, the woman's husband is beating her, the police arrest the husband.

Power attracts certain personality types, but not all police officers are the same.
