Better tasting shrooms

I just found this board about a month ago. Great thing you folks have going here.

I wanted to share a trick I learned through experimentation.

Add a tablespoon of pure peppermint extract to each cup of water in your substrate. You can buy the pure peppermint extract from most grocery stores.

The alcohol in the extract will dissipate in the PC so it will not harm your spores.

Mix well and PC as usual.

This will add a delicate peppermint flavor to your shrooms. Enjoy!

I also tried adding red food coloring to the water before PCing, but the result was only slightly tinted stems and normal caps.

Does anyone else have any other tips or tricks to change the flavor of their fruits?

There are also different flavors you can try as well. Peppermint is the only one I've tried, but there are many other flavors for candies available. Let me know how yours turns out.

My brain just stopped tasting shrooms a while ago. My first few times, the shrooms made me gag so bad, then one time, I just stopped tasting them. Now, I am just immune to the taste, so I can down them. But this peppermint idea sounds very promising. I think I will have to tell my special friend about this for his next batch.

I didn't do it because I didn't like the flavor, but they do taste a bit dirty. I really did it just to see if I can.

I've ben playing with shrooms for a while to see what I could come up with.

I even tried a light rotating around my growing area to see if I could get the shrooms to follow and grow in curls. Without luck.

Does anyone have any other tips or tricks?

I haven't noticed any negatives in potency or yield. Peppermint extract seems to be fairly benign.

I've only tried this with Koh Samui's, but I don't see why this wouldn't work with other strains.

my friend once ate 5 grams raw dry shrooms and was actually able to manage the taste.....after washing them down with orange juice of course

if your shrooms taste bad, it's probably the brf .
grow them on manure, and they taste like mushrooms .  :tongue: :grin:

saute them on low heat with scrambled eggs and onions, and you have a gourmet meal . :smirk:

I've never understood the taste issue. I've eaten all kinds of strains, grown on all kinds of things, in all different size doses and never minded the taste. I actually kind of like it. Most of my friends feel the same way. I even dosed with a bunch of first timers once and told them that they probably wouldn't like the taste; not from my experience, but just cause everyone seems to think so. They all thought they tasted just fine, except for one girl who couldn't stand them, and they were all from the same batch. I rarely even wash them down with anything other than water. Same for my friends. Go figure! This thing has me stumped.

Oh yeah, and doesn't vanilla need to be sweetened with sugar to taste good at all. Mint is cool, but have you ever tasted plain vanilla extract. Yuk.

Yeah, but all those extracts require sweetness for goodness. If you don't believe me, taste the extract with your finger. Yuk. Mint is the only one that seems like it would work. Though, what the hell, it's worth a try.

I'm pretty sure that the shrooms I'm eating taste bad because shrooms taste like crap. Everyone I've ever tripped with has done the same thing the instant they put the shrooms in thier mouths, cringe from the taste and make all sorts of sour faces.
Yeah sure, I can stand the taste of shrooms enough to chew the same 3g for hours at a time and once I start tripping I'll tell people that I like the taste, but guess what, I'm lying.

I'm not saying that someone out there doesn't just love the hell out of some shroom taste, but I'm not going to be going around trying to taste thier goodness.

Anyone know if mushrooms contain any phenylthiocarbamide?

That's the same stuff in PTC filter paper (you might remember from high school - some people can taste it [VERY bitter and nasty, like chewing an aspirin], and some people just taste nothing.)

If they do, it could be a genetic thing - some people taste 'em and some don't.

i like when i was told by a bunch of 15 year olds that i "obviously never ate shrooms before" because i didn't think they taste like shit

and then they told me that they taste like shit because they grow on shit
and i said you can grow shrooms on something other then shit

and they told me i was wrong

then i stopped talking because i realized i was in a blink 182 chatroom

Peppermint can be poisonous and deadly if too much is taken, my grandfather worked in a peppermint field and I remember him telling me this as I was a kid. Suppose the shrooms concentrated the menthol? I really dont think it would be a problem but you might be careful how much you add to the substrate. Here is a link to a little safety, but the actual LD50 for peppermint is not listed. You could find it with a search but all I saw was for animals.

Regardless I think I will try some sort of essential oil like peppermint or another mint. Something that has a fragrant aroma would be more effective I would think. I really dont like the taste of shrooms that well, and have been either rolling up partially dry ones into little balls and swallowing them, or encapsulating them.

Sounds like experiment time, wonder if I can get wintergreen flavoring?

I didn't mean this to turn into a debate over the taste of your shrooms. Again, I did it just to see if I can.

Taste is always relative. Some people like brocolli. Others hate it. Some people like the taste of beer. Others do not.

Also, don't expect a drastic change in flavor. Like I said in my origianal post, adding a teaspoon of peppermint extract to your substrate will only add a delicate peppermint flavor. Don't expect them to taste like breath fresheners.

You could also experiment with the amounts.
