Is Marijuana Addictive?
    #15477872 - 12/06/11 11:38 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Simple question.

How long/how much have you smoked?
Addictive?
You may choose only one

Psychologically addictive, especially if you have a mindset that causes you to believe that any substance is a major factor in your well being, creativity, or life.

Physically I'd say is a non-issue.

It most certainly can be. For me it, it is definitely a challenge for me not to smoke on a daily basis.

I have friends though that have no problems going weeks at a time without smoking.

Hard to say really. Just depends on the person.

Also, I've been smoking for almost 7 years. I really can't tell you HOW MUCH... but I know at least 2 lbs, probably a lot higher but I mean how would I know. (most of that bulk would be mids from when I was in highschool, got it nice and cheap for $50/oz)

Well, it's slightly physical. Just not to the degree that something like benzos or Heroin are.

Not in the way that any other drug is IMO. Caffeine is more addictive than nug. I quit weed cold turkey for probation a while back and after a month & some change I'm just fine. I managed to quit opiates years ago (very, very shitty) and I've tried so many times to quit alcohol (and especially ncotine) to no avail. Stick with the weed.

Anyone who marked "yes" instead of "try some heroin, pussy",  does not have an accurate grasp of what an addiction really is.

Indeed. I am also personally offended by both this and the fact that the OP included this option in the first place.

Becomes a habit but keep yourself busy and you'll rarely notice it's absence.

I picked no, but I am kind of going both ways.  It can seem addictive just because the person likes it so much that it seems like you need it, but after a few days of not smoking that feeling usually goes away for me.  I have had times where I can not go to sleep at night unless I am stoned, but again after not smoking for like a week that goes away.

I can argue that one.  I've had alcohol addiction and I can still admit that marijuana can become addictive.  If you want to argue that one with heroin, what about cigarettes?  Man I smoked those for years and quit cold turkey, I don't get why everyone's a big fucking pussy about that, that's not addiction, that's just habitual.  Addiction is the want to feel the high of marijuana, and getting irritated when you aren't feeling it.

I can imagine it being addictive if you smoke up to a quarter o a day but I've never been that hardcore of a smoker.

I smoke 1/2 to 1 ounce a week and I find it addictive.  I don't go through withdrawals like a junkie does, but I get irritable, I feel crappy, loss of appetite, lack of ability to keep focused, etc.

When I quit cigarettes I just didn't have something in my fingers... Oh shit there's cig 'addiction' in a nutshell.

anything can be mentally addictive. So I say weed is not addictive because its not physically addictive. thus I voted no on this matter.

Well, I don't think 99% of the things people say they're 'physically' addicted to are physically addictive.  Like cigarettes, and that's the biggest addiction out there next to alcohol.

Alcohol has clear-cut signs of physical withdrawal.  If affects your organs, the functions of your body, etc.  Same with benzo withdrawals.

If by Physically Addictive you mean you enjoy the physical feelings, yes weed is Physically Addictive.  I enjoy the head high, the FEELING of how my head feels, whatever that actual physical feeling that goes through my veins and nervous system immediately following a big bong rip.  Yes that's a physical enjoyment/addiction.

However if we're saying "physical withdrawals", no it doesn't.

Nor do Cigarettes for that matter, yet people struggle with that addiction worse than any other...  I love when people call cigs physically addicting.  Makes me LOL.

I chose no, as I have never experienced any symptoms mentally or physically, but that isn't to say others who smoke it more frequently/heavily find it addictive in some sense.

Think about painkillers with addictive potential; some people can pop 'em constantly and stop without a hitch, whereas other succumb right away to the need for more.

I feel that addiction depends on the person and respective dosage as well as the chemical itself. Respect drugs and they will respect you.

Agreed, respecting them is definitely important.  As a pothead, I definitely ABUSE the shit out of weed haha.  I'll get home, take a vapor bong-rip of 0.25g of herb, and do it again 15 minutes later, and then do it consistently every hour.

There's also a problem with vapor bong-rips, you might as well be 'dabbing' because you're in-taking Massive amounts of THC (depending on how much you load, and with a bowl that you can load over 1.0grams in, which I haven't tried... there's some serious potential to get fucked up.  I believe constant overconsumption of this has lead to an addiction for me.  But I haven't smoked since last friday, yay!  Jonesin'

Marijuana is really psychologically addictive depending on the people and the settings.
On my part, I can stay weeks without smoking, but if I don't smoke for days I feel maybe a bit more stressed and tense, so I guess I'm a little bit addicted to weed. I never smoke cigarettes but smoke hash and weed with tabacco, so I think a part of the addiction comes from the tobacco in joints, still, my mind is blocking me from smoking cigarettes and it's great.
Weed is as addictive as the computer I'll say, and the computer can be pretty damn addictive.
