I was considering setting up an outdoor grow patch for p cubensis, I'm fairly certain it would do well initially(over the summer), however I am concerned about what a cold English winter would do
would this kill the mycelium or would it survive to flush next year, if someone has a better Idea of which species would be more appropriate I would be greatly appreciative.
I already have a patch (of sorts) of liberty caps, that naturally occurs

High humidity is something we lack in the UK
You'd be better of with an outdoor patch of p. azurenscens

i think we're outta luck in blighty. best hope is to do an outside moetek in about mid June, and cross those fingers. better bet is to grow cubes indoors, and wait until september for semilanceatas. or get a heated greenhouse.

Maybe covering the grow area would raise the humidity enough...a polythene 'tent' kind of arrangement perhaps. Also a strain that can grow in low temperatures might help.. i've read about Tasmanians colonising and fruiting outdoors down to about 8 degrees C.

i'm sure you'd be able to do it. english summers (where u are) tend to be quite nice, and generous don't they? I reckon a patch of p. cubensis outside would work great.
I'm trying one in New Zealand'
