okay, well my friend emailed me 2 pics, of a DIFFERENT cake of the same strain, he just harvested the shrooms, and on some theres a bit of brown at the stems...the pictures are really bad, infact you cant even really see it... i dont THINK its a contam tho, it smells like shroom, and doesnt the sunlight kill bacteria? also, it happened only on the maxatapec strain, not golden teacher cake...the cake these came from looks normal.

can someone guess the wet weight on them? thats one of those mini lighters in the pic...

also....would sabbing them down a little bit with 91% alcohol on tissue help any if it WAS contam? or would that kill him?
thanks for any help

The only thing i can relate with brown stems at the base is Tarsonemid mite infestation.
Sroll down our FAQ and try to see if you meet such conditions.

if we are referring to the same brown on the stems, they grow in lines up the stem, and are common of the 2nd flush and thereon. It has been said it is because of bacteria is present in the water that it is consuming somehow. they is no problem with consuming these mushrooms, but because your pic is completely useless, its hard to tell-u tell me if the shrooms look like the ones that shirley has posted in the grow logs entitled *completed*malabars / cased straw: 1225g /3 flushes...
its on the first page i odnt know how to link the page directly. if you look at the brown lines going up and down the mushrooms in one of her pics-this is the kind of brown on stems im talkin about-and originates from the water so look into that.

Hey ive had what i think your talking about lemme find some pics.

These are cambos fruited off cakes. They did horrible compared the eq and mexicube growing next to them. Most of the stems had a brown color to them id never seen before. These mushrooms where injested with no problems at all about a year ago.

thats all that came off of the cake sad eh? I think it was like 17 grams. First flush, the EQ and mexicube cakes next to it thru off 50 wet gram flushes.

The only time I have seen something close to that was when the fruit bruised where the fingers grasped it when it was picked. I doubt that is what is going on here.

Afoaf also hase these brown spots on the base of his shrooms. They are brown at the base, then they are fluffy white looking in the middle (like the bottom should be), then normal above that. They appeared after the fruits had grown for about 5 days.

Unfortunately, I searched on verticillium, and I found out that a cake afoaf removed from his terrarium a couple days ago was infected with it. It had the amber drops oozing from a myco bump. I have a feeling this could be the cause of the brown on the stems from another cake in the same environment. Anyone have any experience with this? He has about 45 fuits on the cake with brown on the stems and doesn't want to waste them.

There is now myc. growing over the brown spots, and not the black sporlation of the verticillium as I have read happens. Good for me, because the veils are breaking and I'm eating them tomorrow.
