Ironically, pennies and nickels are the most tangibally valuable money there is today in circulation.

in other words, pennies and nickels are the only coins left circulating which contain intrinsic metals which are worth their weight.

copper pennies are worth almost 3 cents in copper, and nickel nickels are worth almost 7 cents in nickel.

all other money has an artificial face value above its intrinsic base material value.

thus, copper pennies and nickel nickels are the only form of honest money left circulating in quantity, and what do people do?

throw them away.

so goddamned typical and a shameful oversight.

i pick out and hoard copper pennies and nickel nickels from my change.

nickel and copper are pretty decent stand alone investements themselves, they beat a LOT of others.

id way rather have pounds and pounds of copper at $4 pound than electronic money in a bank account getting .03% interest.

copper is going to go up in value, electronic money will not.

I'd be willing to help you out by exchanging all of my change with you for your dollars at a rate of 50 pennies per dollar. By your calculation that's a nice little profit for you.

Do we have a deal?

try ebay, there are actual real copper penny buyers there who will buy your copper pennies for more than $0.01

i prefer silver though, sowwies

ill buy your silver dimes for $0.20 though k?

Picking up pennies is also totally worth it if you do a little math.

2 seconds to pick up a penny

thats 30 pennies pennies a minute

or 18$ per hour.

not bad in my opinion as long as it only takes a couple seconds to reach.

if its a copper penny though your pay is almost triple ($54/hour)

My fiance thought this reply was totally awesome.

And she also said "I keep my pennies, but that's because I'm mostly a Jew."

rofl,

ive got plenty of jew blood in me... maybe thats why i too hoard pennies and nickels? lol.

This thread makes me wonder.
I mean, change is not worth much but it really does not take a lot of space to save em.
You would be surprised how much money change can bring you. Granted I usually pay with a debit card, but when I pay with cash i end up throwing all my change into a jar and saving it until it gets full. I found that a one liter wide mouth water bottle of random change usually adds up to, close to 50 bucks. Of course this is counting quarters, dimes, nickles, and pennies.

I love saving change. I should actually start taking money out and using cash again. It just feels like free money.

A great way to save money for all of you that thing change is worthless it to stop spending single dollars. If you can't afford to spend a fiver on something it must not be worth it. Take all those single dollar bills and stash them. Never spend a single. It will add up fast. Not saying I have personally done this, but it does work.
