Questions about SGFC

I just want to do a few small trays for myself, in a small shotgun chamber. I understand the ideal sgfc would have holes on the bottom of the tub as well as all other sides, but what if i don't put holes on bottom? Also, is it possible to use some kind of filtration like coffee filters to keep excessive tobacco smoke and bugs out of the chamber, without compromising fresh air exchange?

Do it exactly as the tek is written and you'll do great.

i've done shotgun chambers before but i just want a little one without having to set up a stand for it to catch water. There will also be smoking very near it.

I'll say it again, don't cut corners! It will only lead to failure and you wishing that you didn't.

I have a few small SGFC, with holes on all 6 sides. There shouldn't be water dripping out of the bottom if you wet the Perlite to where its just damp. I almost always smoke in the same room as my FC. Also the holes on all 6 sides are needed for proper FAE. The air moving through the Perlite gives the desired Humidity.

I've never had problems with water dripping either. If I don't drain the perlite enough I usually elevate my SGFC in the bath tub after I finish. Shake it up every few minutes until there is no water at all coming out of the bottom. You should be good to go after that. Also, make sure none of the holes are packed with perlite either.

As long as you follow the tek you will be fine
The only thing you need to concern yourself with is if the room your SGFC is in remains above 30% RH. if it is below that you will have trouble inside the SGFC.
I just recently made a SGFC to experiment with and I also played with RH inside the room the SGFC was in and what I found was. if you keep it in a room that is around 30% be prepared to mist a WHOLE LOT. 6 to 8 times a day + to keep it around 95% RH.
Get a humidifier and run it in the same room as the SGFC if you must.
That's my only caveat to this.
Edit: (and stop looking at my signature like a 16 year old high school kid )

Yeah: like trying to swat a mosquito with a tennis racket, lol...
The coffee filters would work for bugs, but not the cigarette smoke... Marijuana smoke isn't nearly as horrid as tobacco smoke... Remember; tobacco is used as an organic insecticide!

I'm not worried about contams at all but i don't want the cig smoke doing something obtuse to the grow

You could always build a box out of some very breathable 300 or 600 series furnace filters or whatnot... Just need four total, of the appropriate size It would, of course, be bottomless and rest over your SGFC... Make one long side of "plexiglass"
Be sure to facilitate a couple of inches between the filter box and the SGFC, especially on the "plexiglass" size. As well as accounting for the SGFC being raised several inches above the surface it is placed on.
Just a random thought. I have no intimate experience with doing as I suggested.
