These are definitely not aborts. I've got a fully developed mushroom that weighs 25g, and the cap and parts of the stem are turning black. They are not purple/black spores either. They don't rub off, and are sticky. It's on the inside as well. It looks like it goes for the cap first, and goes straight through it. The gills are also shriveled/prune-like. The black is not the same color as the bruising either. They are bruising very heavily though
It actually looks exactly like it's turning into ink, but I didn't think the straw and dung loving mush did that. The substrate looks perfectly healthy, but it recently caught trich. I crumbled up the cake, and the trick is only on a small part on the surface.
Could it be a really nasty bacteria/virus infection? I won't have a camera until Friday or Saturday.
Safe to eat? lol. Just kidding. I'm definitely not in a hurry to eat these. I guess I really just want to know why I had to toss these.
