Help needed with contam in harvested shrooms

AFOAF purchased some nice wet shrooms recently, and stored the excess in an unclosed baggie in a drawer. He inserted a small piece of paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Two days later he found some spots of a very white mold growing on his expensive treats, looking rather like what he wishes was growing in his PF jars. There was a mild yeasty smell but otherwise everything still smelled very shroomy.

Are they a total waste as I suspect? Are they okay? Should he cut out the splotchy parts? They are currently in the freezer. They were very, very nice...*SOB!*

He says they initially resembled pictures of cobweb by KindKesey:

fresh shrooms in the freezer. If they have gotten to freeze all the way they are in worse shape then just being moldy.

Dont store fresh shrooms, dont put fresh shrooms in the freezer.

is it possible that the white mold was just myc colonizing the paper towel?

storing fresh ones in the fridge is ok right>?

Freezing fresh is ok since you know how to prepare them right. De freezing is the worst choice, i think you were referring to that. Good choices while still freeze are making a milk shake or cutting them in little pieces and mix them with yogurt, just giving some ideas :wink:

About the white stuff growing, like already as been said, most probably is mycelium growing, i wouldn't worry too much about it.
