Ohio- unidentified mushroom
    #1545719 - 05/13/03 06:00 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I see these mushrooms growing all over on dead logs. Don't think they are hallucinogenic, just wondering what they are.

Are both those mushrooms the same? They look different!

Might want to give some more information. Try clicking HERE to see what information would be benifical in IDing them.

Thanks

I do not believe it is the same mushroom in both pictures, however they both came from the same log and are definately the same species. BTW- The caps do not bruise any color and the caps are ussually around the size of a quarter (about 25mm.) The spore print is on its way!

That looks like one of the group of mushrooms close to Polyporus elegans. There are several of them and we need a detailed description to distinguish which of them it is.

All of them have a texture like wood and are inedible by ordinary human standards. And, as you suspected, none of them are active.

Happy mushrooming!

I was also thinking that Polyporus brumalis looked similar as well.

Not sure the name of the top one (too lazy to find out) but it looks like a deadly species i've seen.

They are the same speices, top and bottom picture.

Polyporus aren't considered a great edible genus...

Thanks. I now believe they are Polyporus Arcularius.
