You can't use grains without a pc, but you can use the pf teks. All the pf teks use brown rice flour and vermiculite with only slight variations on method. The MMGG tek (Magic Mushrooms Growers Guide) is my favorite and I have used it before without a pc. You can find it here:

I read that there is a small percentage of success by boiling the grain-filled jars, then freezing(after it cools to prevent cracking) then repeating several times. I have had success by nuking the grains when my PC was missing the handles. Those handles on old PC's are hard to replace too!

Also you aren't making any mushrooms, you are growing them. Well really you aren't even growing them, just providing the correct nutrients and enviroments etc. so it can grow itself.

I've been using microwaves/steaming for a while now to sterilize whole grains with great success
Try doing a search on fractional sterilization/tyndallization

I don't think you should be using grains yet. It doesn't sound like you know what you are doing at all. You will be a lot better off if you try using the pf tek to grow cakes before doing grains. Cakes are easy, cheap, and you don't need a pc. Just follow the pf tek.
