mycilum growth
    #1545314 - 05/13/03 03:51 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

hey anyone with experience please answer my question. i inoculated my pf style jars 4 days ago. 2 of the jars i think i put a little too much water into the substrate. but all three have a little mycilum growth but its not too thick. will the growth stop because of there being a little too much moisture or is it just going to take a lo0ng time? someone reply!

You'll be fine...

and your really lucky too... it took my mycelium 8 friekin days to show signs of growth, it was really annoying... =/

just keep em warm and stuff and they will grow, try to pick up a differant hobby while your waiting, like painting really neat model cars, or painting those tiny citadel minuatures for games like warhammer 40k, lol.

or you could just.... well theres plenty of things you can do... just try and be patient, like me

That's what mycelium often looks like when it first starts growing. Don't worry so much. If you already see growth after 4 days than you are doing really good. It often takes over a week before you see any growth at all.

I dunno, I've waited 24 days and my guys are still just little (like the size of a pen tip) see through blobs. Haven't really seen any kind of growth in a week or so. I think the jars are dried out or something because of the heater I was using, or lack of humidity or something. I injected some water into them, and if that doesnt do anything, they're dead I guess.

@ LostMetropolis

WELL I would think that no sign of any growth in 24 days is not a good thing.. U did say that you see some blobs. that is usually the first steps of pin formation.. Are you fanning regularly?

Am I supposed to fan the jars? I thought you were just supposed to fan when they are cakes.

I wouldn't check it every day...it will seem like its CRAWLING..and ya it starts off thin and the worry that its cobweb runs through your mind...but then as it gets bigger its gets thicker and strandier....and you are right you don't have too fan jars tho it wouldn't hurt I guess...I actually fanned mine a lil..I doubt it did anything tho :P...I just wanted the mycelium too hurry the hell up ;P

The circled areas show the "greyish blobs". Does this look like cobeweb or mycellium? Sorry the pictures quality sucks. On all the jars they are concentrated the most at the bottom.

They haven't grown much past this in the last week or two. They were pretty dried out so last night I injected some water into them and now they have condensation (not a lot but noticable) on the inside sides of the jars. That and I decided to move them outside so they can have suitible humidity. I live in FL so the weather is perfect right now. Is this ok? I gave most of the jars maybe like 10 drops of water, one of the jars like 50, and one none. Hopefully this might determine what is best by comparison, if it works at all. Here is what they look like:

What do you think?

Thanks
Peace,
LM
