Shitakes in washington state?
    #1545266 - 05/13/03 03:31 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

Will the climate in summer with some watering by me be able to produce shitake mushrooms outside? I am planning on using the outdoor casing method... Colonized substrate mixed up with straw, and compost ect. outside.. Will this work?

Have you done any research into this at all?

Shiitakes are wood decomposers. You might be able to get them to grow on straw, but I highly doubt it will give decent flushes. They also don't require a casing. Furthermore, there are various different strains that fruit at different temperatures. Read before you attempt this...
