Massive magic mushroom seizure city's largest
'Shroom's street value $100K

It's believed to be "one of the largest seizures" of magic mushrooms in Winnipeg police history, said Const. Bob Johnson.

While arresting a suspect Thursday night at 821 Ash St. for a violent kidnapping last month, cops found a duffel bag filled with 14 one-pound sandwich bags of psilocybin.

The haul has an estimated street value of close to $100,000.

The illegal hallucinogen, which sells for $15 a gram, was shipped from B.C. and is believed to have been linked to the Hells Angels, said Insp. Blair McCorrister.

'Shrooms are popular at raves and are typically sold to school-aged customers.

ROTTWEILER GUARDED HOUSE

Ash Street residents said the 23-year-old man who was arrested had been renting the bungalow from an Edmonton doctor since last fall.

Neighbours had complained about the constant activity and a Rottweiler that guarded the house.

"Lots of people were always coming and going," said one neighbour. "We always wondered what they were doing."

Teen wrongly linked to crime is kidnapped and then raped

Four men with ties to the Hells Angels have been charged in an extortion plot involving the kidnapping and gunpoint rape of an 18-year-old woman.

The four suspects allegedly thought the teenager knew who was responsible for an armed home invasion in The Maples where cash and marijuana -- believed to be the property of the Hells Angels -- was stolen, police said.

But cops say the victim isn't linked to the home invasion -- she just happens to be of the same race as the two unidentified home invaders, and her boyfriend is known to the accused kidnappers.

"This is an example of what can go wrong (in the drug trade)," said Winnipeg police Insp. Blair McCorrister. "It's just horrendous what happened here."

Two men, both believed to be black, forced their way into a home on Mapleglen Drive on April 7 and robbed the resident of about $3,000 in cash and a pound of marijuana at gunpoint.

Sources said a street-level drug dealer with links to the Hells Angels lives at the home.

Later that day, the resident and three other men allegedly abducted the teenage woman, who is also black, from her undisclosed Winnipeg residence and drove her around the city for several hours while threatening to kill her if she didn't help them get the stolen cash and drugs back, police said.

The abductors eventually took the teen back to her residence, where one of the men allegedly raped her at gunpoint.

The woman later told cops, "It was one of the most traumatic experiences she's ever been through in her life," said Const. Bob Johnson.

Instead of calling police, the terrified victim and her boyfriend went into hiding.

After receiving another death threat about a week later, the victim and her boyfriend finally contacted police.

Members of the Winnipeg police organized crime unit launched an investigation and rounded up the four suspects Thursday night.

During one arrest at 821 Ash St. in River Heights, cops discovered a duffel bag filled with 14 pounds of psilocybin or "magic mushrooms" with a street value of nearly $100,000.

Charged with kidnapping and extortion are: Jason Hamilton Masniuk, 28, of Ash Street; Jesse Jon Rushford, 22, of Jefferson Avenue; Belarmine Roque, 21, of Mapleglen Drive; and Richard Samuel Armstrong, 27, of Marjorie Street.

Masniuk was also charged with sexual assault with a firearm, possessing goods obtained by crime and trafficking.

Masniuk, Roque and Armstrong were detained in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

Rushford, who allegedly violated his parole, was expected to be housed in Stony Mountain Institution.

Rushford was convicted April 23, 2002, of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and sentenced to two years in jail, according to court records. He was also handed a 10-year weapons prohibition.

One of the reasons marijuana is illegal today because growers in the 30s lobbied against hemp farmers -- they saw it as competition, because It is not chemically addictive as is nicotine, alcohol, or caffeine.

If it were not illegal to grow and sell mushrooms we wouldn't see morons like him dealing them.  Visit a few amsterdam smart shops for a good example of what we would see instead.

How do you know these people didn't think they were doing the work of God by spreading the mushroom? You can't listen to the media's interpatation of the events because they write it to make it look bad, don't let them toil with your emotions that's what they want to happen.

Maybe 14 pounds of pure psilocybn is worth $100,000. No matter, news services are ambiguous, and are meant to be, to cover their ignorance.

Unfortunately, they serve to only spread the "disease" of ignorance to the masses who read it. Paradoxically, all who seek to gain information learn nothing. Hence, in general, good job media, you fuck-ups.
