That's extraordinary. How hard do you suppose it would be to obtain some 22S, 23S-homobrassinolide? It's not like you need much.. only 0.01ppm Aren't you excited about this Anno?

10mg is 200$ ( http://www.cidtech-research.com/cib.html )
Unfortunately I mostly forgot about this, but if I'm correct then 0.01ppm is the concentration. The actual volume used is not specified in that document. With 10mg you can get 1000l of 0.01ppm concentration.

Green beans contain lots of different hb's, including the specific one gartz used.
The best organic source for 22s, 23s-hb is rape seed pollen. Rape seed is commonly grown as a cover crop by organic farmers, so seeds are easy to get.
I would think that collecting the pollen in a plastic bag from a pollinating plant would be very simple, and provide a nice supplement to play with, although you wouldn't really know exact concentrations and stuff.

Ha! Yeah -- Spring, love is in the air!
I found some ref's to some journal articles for a synthesis and extraction but I left them in work -- I'll post them tomorrow.

I've never seen anything more than speculation showing that HB or it's relatives are really present in bee pollen. Not to mention concentrations, and variation in brand/source/season etc.
I've seen experiments that indicate that bee pollen has a similar effect, but nobody has ever shown that is actually a homobrasinosteroid responsible for these results.
At least not that I've seen. If anybody has a hard reference, please post it to clear up this obviously un-scientific ambiguity.
Also, a European has told me that their health stores carry "mixed-pollen" which has given similar results to homobrassinosteroids and bee pollen in experiments. So if you're in Europe and can't find bee pollen, try the mixed pollen.

Umm.. Bees make pollen? If the bee picks the pollen up from a rapeseed, then perhaps it does. If not, then it might not. But I KNOW bees don't MAKE pollen..

I read that you need hundreds of kilos of rape pollen to be able to extract the amounts needed.

Where did you read that anno? The reference I saw showed high concentrations of brassinosteroids in rape seed pollen. Granted, that was a while back, and I don't remember where it was, but I was always under the impression that it was one of the best organic sources. Also, in regards to bee pollen Fungus Maximus (I think that's who) has shown definite increases in growth in liquid cultures with bee pollen. He actually even had a liquid culture form a fruit body (not from the liquid itself, but from a mass of mycelium floating on top of it). Now, like I said, that could be due to some unknown chemical, but it certainly sounds like the effects of a brassinosteroid....

Ok, so the motto is "never give up"
Here: http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/motm/brassinolide/brassinolidej.htm
"The huge effort of processing 40 kg of collected bee pollen of Brassica napus L. yielded 4 mg of a crystalline material which was identified as (22R,23R,24S)-2a,3a,22,23-tetrahydroxy- 24-methyl-B-homo-7-oxa-5a-cholestan-6-one.[3] "

i can get a few fresh pounds of this stuff if anyone wants any of it...
i am about 95% sure that it is rape. judging from the pictures..
there is some growing next to where i work, PM me if interested, it would be worth a shot at extracting the brassinosteroids i think.
