A Note regarding grains

Hey folks.
With my experimentation with grains, I must say that boiling is a necessity.

Rye in particular, that grain dries out very, very quickly, even in a humid environment.

Some people declare that boiling renders the grains unshakable, so my answer to you guys is gypsum, 1/2 a teaspoon will usually do the trick per 2 lbs of grain.

Especially when you're steam sterilizing in a 16-21 PSI flux, the sterilization really sucks the moisture from the grains, especially if they are in unsealed AC bags.

Also, another note: although a pre-soak is a good action for almost all grains, do not soak flax seed. One word: Oil. All who have soaked flax seed know what I mean :wink:.

Sounds good. A foaf has had to add moisture to his rye berries after mycelia growth stunted.
