Try Abilify. No cognitive side effects, no weight gain, and thought seems a little clearer. (I was diagnosed schizophrenic but all episodes have been drug-induced).

how can they diagnose with schizophrenia if it was drug induced psychosis? did it cause permanent mental illness? that can happen to some people from what i've read... i'm sorry to hear that that happened to you... you're right about abilify, it seemed to be a safe medication the entire time i was on it it just wasn't very effective me unfortunately... i wish it was because i never noticed any serious side effects...

take care of yourself circastes...

Does the United States or your state - or county - have community mental health clinics? I get my medication for $5, it would be like $280 if I had to pay for all of it. I'm also on a health care card with the government because schizophrenia is considered a primary disability. I think that shrinks the price down too.

I don't know what it's like in the US of A but are there pension schemes for disabled people? If so you might be able to get your local/state/federal government to pay (as well as a pension maybe).

Suggest it to your doctor, say you heard Abilify works well and what it might do for you... and how much it will cost vs. current meds.

IMO if they're gonna force you to take meds they should be giving massive discounts or giving it for free.

Yeah I don't believe I need them, I tested myself by not taking myself off them for 4 days and I felt great, just have trouble sleeping.

What did haldol do to you Kensho? Why did you not like it?

well, when i was first diagnosed i had auditory, tactile, olfactory and gustatory hallucinations... they first anti-psychotic i was placed on was zyprexa 20mg which got rid of all hallucinations but auditory, but zyprexa turned on me... i experienced terrible weight gain, muscle stiffness, tremors, i loosing my balance constantly, i developed irregular heart beats and chronic tiredness so he out me on haldol 5mg twice a day and it didn't take too long, i'd say 4 months for me and symptoms began to develop... shit like swelling of my cheeks, blurred vision, trouble speaking at times, tactile, olfactory and gustatory hallucinations returned and it seemed to begin to intensify my auditory hallucinations while i was on it, i became easily agitated and out of the blue also caused heart beat problems similar to zyprexa plus i always felt completely out of it while on it...

i hope this helps you...

Thnx for the responses.  All your stories are very interesting to me as I've had my share of hospitalizations and medications.

Thanks kensho.

Because I had repeated episodes and lied about using drugs (said I didn't) they made the diagnosis schizophrenia, suspecting I was like a brother who has it full-blown, full-time.

I asked for a second opinion recently and they were happy to support it, I just have to type a letter to another psychiatrist in their practice. The thing is, if they retract the diagnosis, I'll lose my support pension lol.

I don't know, maybe those people ARE out to get me...  :feelsparanoidman:
